Some Concerns

Over at MMORPG.com, in http://www.mmorpg.com/gamelist.cfm/game/821/view/forums/thread/375942/What-are-your-concerns-about-TESO.html thread, some posters have expressed some concerns about TES:O. I thought it would interesting to see what concerns others may have here, if any.

My main concern is that I never was interested in playing Dark Age of Camelot (DAoC) at any time. I am not a realm vs realm PvPer, so a game with that focus does not interest me. TES:O seems to be going down the DAoC path with what I've read and heard. I could be wrong on some accounts, for sure, as lots of speculation with very few answers to questions are easily found on the web.

What I have heard that makes me think this is DAoC 2 is the three race-locked areas of the same map. The no choice to choose which faction from character creation forever onward design decision. The Elder Scroll's (TES) HUGE selling point for me is it's true, "Open World" design. Also it's "Open Skill" character development of "You use/train it, it gets better." type of design. Neither of these seems to be a major selling point for TES:O. Instead it is "Realm vs Realm vs Realm." Not a top selling point for this TES player.

If they call TES:O "Open World", it is a lie. A world with areas a player cannot access simply due to their race is not even close to "Open World." Having a playable area of 1/3 the map +1 zone (Cyrodill) is not "Open World." If I could go to these areas and be killed on sight (KoS), that would be one thing. But a player cannot even set foot into these areas. I have also heard the term "Open World PvP" thrown around, which is false information. One zone out of nine does not "Open World PvP" make. I don't know who has been using this term, but it kind of bugs me. (I am not a PvPer at all, so I really could not care less, but it may say something about those touting this feature.)

It seems like turning in quests and killing opponents will grant XP, not the use of skills as all previous incarnations of The Elder Scrolls have been. It sounds like there will be some aspect of it, though I certainly do not know for sure.

The developers all along have said, [paraphrased] "We want to make a marriage between TES and MMOs." What I have seen and read seems like a very one-sided relationship favoring MMOs. Where is the part that is TES? If you say Tamriel, I will laugh. They could have set this in ANY world and not done any different.

Where is the housing where my character lives and makes a home? (They have flat out said, "It can't be done.")
Where are the trainers we can pay to help level up our skills? (Maybe they're there, I just have not read about it.)
Where is the crafting mix between Morrowind, Oblivion, and Skyrim? (Maybe it's there, I just have not read about it.)
Where are the Guilds and their cool stories? (Yes, they said they will have Mages, Fighters, Thieves, and something else that eludes my memory right now, but there were a LOT more available in the previous incarnations of TES.)

This was a sentiment from a poster in the thread at MMORPG.com:

I am happy for this poster, as it seems TES:O will be everything they hope for and more. What about the TES fans? What is there for us?

From what I have read, I would like to ask the developers, "What exactly is the TES part in this marriage?"
