I recently got a 2010 (or might be 2011?) acer laptop with a brand new hard drive that was bought just like a few days ago.
Hard drive has 300GB memory and is on Windows 8. I have installed Java 7 (Downloaded), DirectX 8.1 (Got from Morrowind's CD), and DirectX 9c (Got from Stronghold Legends CD) so far on it as well as the default programs already on Windows 8. I also have installed a few extra things that seemed to have came with "Chivalry: Medieval Warfare" but I don't know what they are and one thing refuses to let me download it cause it says I already have a newer version of DirectX on my 2004 dell desktop. (The laptop doesn't have internet access but the desktop does so I have to download thru desktop and use flash drives to transport).
As for some info on the laptop itself... 3 GB RAM, 1 GB Graphic Card, 2.19 GHz Processor. (My friend said it was a Duel-core processor but Idk about that cause he also said it was a 2.8 GHz but what I've read on the laptop was 2.19). Idk what the default Video Card is on this laptop...
Currently, the laptop runs games like Morrowind and Stronghold Legends better than the Desktop yet the Desktop can run Minecraft while the new laptop cannot (Gets a black screen after hitting "play offline". Actually had Minecraft on for the past 30 minutes and still nothing). The laptop cannot run Chivalry (My friend told me it should run Chivalry after getting DirectX install). The laptop can run UDK and I have played Unreal Tournament 3 via the UDK Editor and UDK Game on the laptop (With up to 16 bots which was chaoticly fun), and this isn't possible on the Desktop...
My question is... What could be going wrong that would make Minecraft unable to load on this new laptop and what is the newest version of DirectX that works on Windows 8? (I am thinking about downloading DirectX 11 however it says it only works on Windows 7).
