Teleporting doesn't fit in the TES universe

Since when?

You find so much more roaming around Skyrim than by fast traveling. Plus looking at the world of Skyrim is more interesting than looking at a loading screen.

I seldom use fast-travel. Skyrim's game world is immensely detailed, beautiful and teeming with life. When you're walking through a valley, surrounded by mountains, the world can feel utterly huge. Exploration is, IMO, the Elder Scrolls series' greatest strength. Quests eventually come to an end, but a good game world can make the game last forever.

QFT. Running around the reach, the world seems quite immense from the mountains...daunting, even.

Well, now when i'm just finishing the guilds' radiant quests before the grand finale
Spoiler
Skuldafn and Sovngarde
after which i'm done with the character, i've started to fast travel a lot. But during "proper" gameplay i avoid it as much as possible, and when needed use carts instead. By not fast traveling you can do all sorts of things between quest locations; battle enemies increasing skills, gether alchemy and smithing incredients, clear that dungeon on the side of the road, random encounters and other stuff.

I don't fast travel because I like to explore.

Not a difficult concept.

I think i recall reading in past posts that some people prefer NOT to fast travel? What's the reason for this?

I got this folks, and lets me use my all-time favorite classic series Doctor Who quote:

"My dear Brigadier, a straight line may be the shortest route between two points.... but it is, by no means, the most interesting!"

If you fast travel, you can miss some pretty awesome things on the roads between cities and towns, like M'aiq the Liar and the Headless Horseman.

Stargate SG-1 baby.

I'm an SG-1 fan too... but keep in mind i'm 39. We didn't have SG-1 in the early 1980s

Oh, and classic series Doctor Who was the inspiration for SG-1, incidentally. I watched SG-1 and said "This is what the new series of Doctor Who SHOULD'VE been!"

I only fast travel back from quests, I'll never fast travel to a quest location, even if it's already discovered.

I only fast travel when going all the way from one side of the map to the other, or when going through a cell I have already been that hasn't reset yet so things re spawn again. Nothing more boring than going through land where the things to talk to have already been spoken to, the things to kill are already dead, and there is nothing left worth it to find lol. Luckily though cells re-spawn after so many days.

Because I'd rather play the game for 30 minutes running from Riften to Solitude and encountering new things along the way than go from Riften to Solitude, to Markarth, to Windhelm, to Falkreath, Winterhold, to Whiterun in 30 minutes but 20 of those minutes being nothing but loading screens.

Wrong.

Oh... it's there. It just doesn't fit anymore.

The Recall spell was removed and it was replaced with a map/cursor/button push.

That's what I meant by my statement.

Fast travel in Skyrim is an artificial teleportation system that has no place in the TES world. It's not magic... it's not even portal to portal transport.

The fast travel in Skyrim... which is artificial teleportation... doesn't belong in the TES universe.

It's more of a metafictional system. Use it or don't, it's up to you.

Fast travel isn't really teleportation. Time elapses when you do it.

Borg were also inspired by the Cybermen from classic Doctor Who. :P
