If you give them stuff to hold and you part ways either by telling them to part ways or by leaving them waiting for too long will they still have your stuff? And if you part ways will you be able to get them back? Do they go back to their original location when you seperate?

All the companions will hold your items safely in inventory for you. They will go back to location where you first meet them or you can tell them to go to the Lucky 38 Casino.

Now for the two exceptions. Raul goes back to his shack in the north, not back to Black Mountain. Empty ED-E before you send him off to be upgraded; he will return from the upgrade empty.
