Something amazing happened just now.

So I was doing the main quest where you,
Spoiler
have to infiltrate that Thalmar ((sp)) party. Delphine had just given me the party clothes and I had emptied my inventory on that guy who holds onto your stuff
In the middle of Delphine informing me of the quest she suddenly stops talking, draws her bow and runs off, as well as every soldier and civilian in sight as a dragon flew overhead and started attacking. I was at a complete loss, since I had an empty inventory and simple clothes all I could do was run from the thing.

Here all around me, guards and other NPCs were attacking the dragon I was in the middle of it all. The dragon didn't even really seem to focus on me at all and I watched in awe as it caused chaos and was attacking everything in site. Since I didn't have a weapon, only real way I could help was "Fus Ro Da" the thing when it landed to stun it so the guards could keep working on killing it. Eventually it died and I absorbed the soul. Then the guards stood there and were actually talking about the fight, wondering where the dragon came from and if another one would show up. The AI in this game is fantastic. They didn't drop the ball at all.

It felt like something out of an epic fantasy movie. I was lucky I had so much help fighting the dragon because I had absolutely nothing to fight it with, except maybe my fists. There was also the fact that it attacked in the middle of the quest giver talking to me and cutting her off at just the right time. I even consulted the guide to see if it was some sort of scripted event for the quest since the timing was just so perfect, and it wasn't. That was by far one of the best experiences I've had in Skyrim to date and why I love the game.

Last time I was in Riverwood a Dragon attacked. It was great. Afterward the whole town ran out and stood around the dragon corpse talking about how I must be dragonborn and all that. Epic moment indeed.

Not nearly as epic as when a guard told me to shut up while I was busy Fus-ing the royal dinner.=D

I think the AI in this game is MILES above Oblivion's. You don't really notice how intelligent it is, because the whole idea is that it isn't screwing up all the time. The Oblivion AI seemed to be idiotic, and got itself into trouble all the time. The Skyrim AI seems capable of dealing with the things the game engine can create, which is pretty unprecedented for a big budget video game.

Something like this happened to me...

I was doing the mage guild quest, and it was the part when this really jerk guy sorta takes over and you are just about to go to the town to protect from the 10 wisps.

Well....

a dragon attacked just as I exited the building

it was AWESOME, as all the mages in the college were shooting fireballs everywhere up at it as it came down and attacked

it was a random event that added a huge emergency in the middle of a huge emergency, and i'll always have the dragon bones sitting in the middle of the college courtyard to remember it by

You are a nerd.
That's not supposed to be an insult, is it?

Edit: On topic, yeah, the AI has surprised me several times. If you walk away from that Black-Briar guy when you first enter Riften, he'll say "You can pretend not to hear me all you want, but stay away from the Black-Briars!"

I have nothing to add to the nerd conversation but I was wondering why you didn't hit the dragon with a "shout"? Or maybe you couldn't? :whistling:

I did, lol! I mentioned it in my post. I spammed "Fus Ro Da" to stun it so the guards could kill it easier.

This happened to me in the middle of a quest too. I won't spoil anything, but I was supposed to sneak through a very large group of enemies outside of a farm. Suddenly, while I was moving around being all sneaky, a dragon dropped almost right on top of me. I tried to let the dragon kill as many of them as possible before finishing everyone off. Nevertheless, my cover was blown.

I was in Dragon Bridge after just spending the night in the inn. As I'm on the inn's porch, I see a shadow just zoom by ominously before it lands over by the bridge and attacking. It was a pretty epic moment. There wasn't the dragon's cry or anything, just a shadow, almost like seeing a shark's fin in the water, lol.

It seems like the best Skyrim stories will end with ... "and then a dragon showed up."

I had a quest to go beat up a farm girl. We're slugging it out in the potatoes, and then a dragon showed up. Let me go ahead and tell you, punching a dragon is not a great strategy.

I had just joined the College of Winterhold and was heading out with my fellow students and professor for a lesson in nearby ruins, when a Dragon flew overhead. Immediately Tolfdir and the students starting blasting it with magic. I (being a stealth/mage build) pulled out my bow and started peppering it with arrows. Slowly working my way around the dragon, towards my fellow companions, we seemed to be doing fairly well against it, for a couple students and one master mage. Suddenly, I heard a fierce growl and my vision went blurry. Next thing I knew I was watching a death animation. A Snow Bear snuck up behind me during all this and mauled me.

I recently had a similar experience just outside Riften. A Dragon flew overhead, though did not attack.

The Guards left their posts, civilians ran inside, but the Dragon flew off into the mountains. Afterwards, they stood around talking about it - as well as the rumours of Dovahkiin.

Yeah. And? Most of the people posting here are nerds and geeks. Or haven't you noticed the discussions regarding weapon damage, computer stats, computer builds, computer parts, and so on? Chances are good you'll even run into a few Dr. Who, Star Trek, and Star Wars references.

I usually just say thanks to anyone who calls me a nerd. It isn't really an insult, considering.

In case you meant it that way, however, you really should read the forum rules. No flaming allowed here.

Also my story just goes to show proof that the Radiant AI and Radiant animal nature they promised us is still in full effect, just sometimes you don't expect it and it surprises you. Such as like seven guards standing around the bones of the dragon and actually commenting on the fight and wondering if another dragon will show up. People have mostly been disappointed in the AI because they have missed memorable scenes like what I described
