You were not alone.

I don't have much experience with earbuds, so I'm not much help there, I'm afraid.

Well I was thinking jewellery, personally. Er... I like Sennheisers as far as headphones are concerned, though they're generally a bit less discreet than earbuds, earwigs etc.

Sony is a good, yet affordable brand. I use it for that reason.

Vometia is right about sennheisers though. they are studio quality and highly favored over every other brand.

MUHAHAha!, my dastardly plan to make you think things worked

I do have this headhone set
http://www.amazon.com/Koss-Stereophone-Maximum-Durability-158445/dp/B000ONYT6E/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1330380447&sr=8-1

And I liked them, but after my mom's earrings tore up the foam they are uncomfortable so I need new headphones for my MP4 player & regular earbuds just don't work with my head & I would like discreet audio

Are Dre Beats any good? I know they're the fashionable choice right now. My brother has a pair and says he likes them.

What kind of sound do you want from them? Lots of bass? Treble? Neutral (not adding anything; keepign thigns as close to the recording as possible)?

No.

They're coming out with some good headphones now. The Aviators are supposed to be good if flimsy, and the Mix Master and SK Pro were well-received by respected audiophiles.

Are you looking for good isolation Rusty Gunn? If you're going to use these on buses and stuff it would be a good idea.

If you're looking for IEMs, you owe it to yourself to http://www.head-fi.org/t/478568/multi-iem-review-225-iems-compared-id-america-spark-ue-super-fi-4-added-02-26-12.

@ below: Which model of Beats? The Solo and Solo HD are absolutely dreadful and measure worse than several $15-20 models I know. The Studio does better there but still a far cry from its price point, and its active noise canceling is both mandatory and ineffective compared to Bose alternatives. I don't know about the in-ears, but I wouldn't trust them. Not to mention every model is way too fragile for the price you pay, made mostly of cheap plastic (with the exception of the Pro, which is metal and apparently too heavy to be comfortable).

oh I know the audio quality isn't half bad but Skull Candy headphones are so flimsy they're likely to break before you get them out of the packaging :/

I saw the name of this thread and my mind went straight to an episode of Family Guy.

OT: My Skull Candy buds seem to be working fairly well.

The headphones, at least from my perspective, are poorly built, unbalanced with audio, and overly expensive. Beats headphones enhance the low sounds to create rattling bass, and that is ALL you hear.
The sennheisers are studio quality headphones and sound much cleaner compared to beats.

Skullcandy earbuds are not worth the money. I had skullcandies before and hated them. I dumped them for a pair of auvio earbuds at radioshack and they sounded much better.
I still like my sony earbuds. They are very well made, sound amazing, and look good, Plus, they are cheap!

I've never used them, but I think the main reason Dre Beats piss off audiophiles so much isn't because they sound bad - it's because they cost 5x as much as headphones that sound the same. So, therefore, if you spent what you would on Dre Beats, but got some Sennheisers or Audio Technica (sp?) you would get that much better audio, but unfortunately you wouldn't be in style, according to high school kids.

That's usually the case, yes. Also because they're popular and audiophiles love to be hipsters and buy the niche products. Honestly, the whole headphone market has to thank Monster. Not only did they make it cool to spend $300 on headphones, but they did it with crappy headphones so the other companies look even better.

The Solo though, that should not be wished on one's worst enemies. http://www.innerfidelity.com/images/MonsterBeatsbyDrDreSoloHD.pdf
