Make a potion out of mudcrab flesh and put it on the wounds. Either you will die of an infection or the arrow will rot out

I suppose the only thing you can do is wait, either that or reload a save before the arrows were there.

Something that worked in oblivion was dropping all the arrows of the type that are stuck in you. So if you have iron arrows in you drop all the iron arrows in your inventory then pick them up again. If that doesn't work just wait a while they should disappear eventually.

I think loading into a new area always took care of it in Oblivion.

Reloading is out of the question cos I have done so much since.
I tried what you said to do, Gilead, but it did not work

Also, I'm not sure how long I should be waiting I've played a fair few hours with them stuck there.

Equip and unquip? arrows in your inventory. worked in Oblivion for me.

Are you carrying arrows? Drop them all, then pick them back up. This will usually include the ones stuck in you so they'll be removed.

I remember in Oblivion having arrows sticking through my shield into my hand, and arrows sticking right through me in whatt in RL would have been a kill placement.
