Soul gem charging

Post » Fri May 11, 2012 5:21 pm

Just got a daedric dagger, then maxed it to legendary, with 30x sneak hits due to dark brotherhood armor and perk. Going to be pretty good, I enchanted it the soul trap, but anything I kill I get the message "no soul gem large enough", so it doesn't even charge up smaller small empty gems? I don't have any empty grand or greater ones at the moment. Anyone got any advice?

What DarkSkinDunmer said. Easily the most useful artifact in the game.

Kill things with smaller souls to fill the smaller soul gems. Critters, spiders, etc

Hmm black star or azuma star, looks like you have to choose. Trapping creatures or trapping humanoids souls, not sure which one to go for?

Black star if you're a murdering scumbag like me. Humans have Grand Souls and there are endless supplies of guards everywhere you go ;)

I have Azura′s Star, but it says empty even though I get the message: "no soul gem large enough". So how do I fill up Azura′s Star?

There are black and white souls. A black soul gem only accepts black. A regular soul gem only accepts white.

This is probably the problem you are having.

I don't think anyone's given a completely full explanation here, so expanding on what Tale said:

Non-sentient creatures have WHITE souls. Their souls can be bound in the regular sorts of soul gems you mostly come across.

Men, mers, and other sentient creatures have BLACK souls. Their souls can only be bound in a BLACK soul gem, or equivalent.

I haven't heard of either of these artifacts, but I would guess that with Azura's Star, you can only bind WHITE souls, but with the Black Star you can bind BLACK souls.

Oh btw, I learned all this in a book I came across called something along the lines of "Souls: Black and White," within the game :P

Another detail that might be a spoiler for some.
Spoiler
The Azura's Star artifact has both a white and black version in the game. It's traditionally only white, so the black one could be considered a spoiler.

I was just about to ask about this - I think I'll go with the Black Star because humans = grand and that's a lot more useful to me. One thing though, does it count as a collected Daedric Artifact? There's a trophy for getting 15 of them and I just wondered if going with Nelecar for the Black one counts...

Tempted to start perking in enchanting now, I enchant everything I use, and the final perk double enchantments is good. Smithing is at 100 and have half the perks (right side to dragon). Is it worth perking enchanting?

I would have to think it does as it is indeed a Daedric Artifact.

Thank you! Sorry for a stupid question, but what is a Non-sentient creature?

Bandits count as Black souls I believe, so just fast travel to a mine if you need some souls.
