Sound problem, possible fix, win7

Just figured out a problem I have using the solution that another guy had on a chat I participate in. And I want to share it.

Turns out he couldn't even launch his game when his win7 sound settings was configured for 96kHz sampling rate. He turned this down to a lower rate and it launched. He then sequentially increased it so he could use as high sampling rate as the game would allow.

This reminded me of my own problem where I get hissing sounds on some sound effects and voice recordings. Most often the voice recordings that reveal vital parts of the story sadly enough. Maybe they're recorded in another rate? Most obvious for me was the camp fires though. I only heard hissing sounds (high frequency pitch sounds) from them. I turned down my sampling rate in windows and now I can hear the camp fires and the other sounds that were previously incorrect. I have manually turned this up myself once upon a time because I wanted to try out my fiber optic cable to the receiver when setting it up. Then I forgot about it because it worked and it didn't have any impact until now.

This is how you do it.

Right click on the speaker icon in your system tray.
Doubleclick playback devices. In my case "SPDIF interface".
Click Advanced.
Click on "Restore defaults" or manually set your sampling rate lower until the sounds are working properly. Then increase it up until the level where the problem starts occuring and then lower it one step again.

I don't know the cause of this problem, so no point in asking me. For the devs I'd speculate it has to do with either decoding software issues, skyrim not telling windows at what rate it can do playback if that's even possible. Or if it's some sounds being recorded in a different sampling rate. If you want me to run a debug for you then I'd need some instructions. I have no idea how to produce a log from the game engine.

The symptoms were not the same. I'm expanding the symptoms for what could be the same cause. I'm confident gamesas appreciates that even if you don't.

And for me there was an extra issue that mixing the various fixes together would CTD even IF you did use the sound fix!
