Spellmaking? (With limits of course.)

Post » Mon Jan 28, 2013 7:58 am

One of my favorite things to do in Morrowind was make crazy spells. I would love to see a spellmaking system, with limits of course, that could make my character more unique. Perhaps making a limit on damage and levels of spellmaking deciding that amount, but really just adding the ability to make a spell my own would be great. Maybe a barrage or one giant, flaming death ball would be great. With inclusion of burn damage amounts at the cost of initial damage or impact value like staggering on weaker enemies, just something that I could be like, yeah thats my signature spell right there. Anyways what do you guys think?

Would be nice, but I dont think the mechanics will allow it. I would make a lighting spell that would stun the enemy and do damage over time of 30 seconds and when it ends would give one huge shock at the very end.

I just don't see how this could be properly balanced.

Sorry to be so blunt but it ain't going to happen, might as well forget it and look forward to the system they have in place. :D

I enjoyed the morrowind spellcrafting too, but that's not going to happen. :P

Spellmaking works great for single player RPGs, unfortunately I think we're a long ways away from seeing a balanced version of this implemented for online play... maybe one day. It would be pretty cool though

balance issues would be astronomical or even astrological but on the other hand if crafting spells would be similar to system of glyphs in World of Warcraft then it would make sense /or even system similar to Diablo 3. Yes, that would work and balancing would be rather smooth - for example: fire spell + illusion = teleport to spell hit zone/your phantasm-clone would spawn on hit ( battlemage/spellsword )

I hope they have it. Can't imagine how being a caster with only 5 spells (and one Ult) would work. Without having only a few good spells (that one cookie cutter build) and a lot of useless ones. So some combined spell effects would be nice.

I can see this working easily within ESO's combat mechanics.
What we need to do is add spells as equipable weapons - those would be cast from your hands via l/r mouse button like in the single player games; class abilites remain unaffected. Then we can add mechanics to craft these spells and balance them like any other weapon / enchantment. Would make a nice alternative to staffs as well.
