No spirits in Skyrim?

Post » Mon Aug 20, 2012 9:53 pm

I just noticed this anomaly of the game and found it pretty weird. Think about it; the Nords are a bunch of bad-ass warriors right? So how come they don't have anything stronger to drink than mead and wine? Why is there no "fantasy vodka" or something similar? Are drinks like Alto Wine supposed to be the strong ones (I'm not a lore buff so I wouldn't know)? Or maybe they were excluded because Beth thought it wouldn't fit well in the setting? What do you guys think? (This is mainly for RP purposes; it feels pathetic to have my Orcish berserker drinking something barely stronger than milk.)

There's Nord Mead. Perhaps it's regular mead spiked with some serious whiskey.

But in all seriousness there's probably not more alcholic beverages available in the game due to ESRB ratings and all that jazz. That could be complete nonsense though, I'm not sure.

I just find it strange they would allow "some" alcohol and "some" drugs but not a broader selection, besides that Skooma stuff sounds really messed up (and Skyrim is rated M anyway).

Dragon's Breath mead? Maybe thats strong mead.

Yeah but still mead... you know honey wine... yuck. :P

I don't think adding some stronger alcohol in the game would suddenly make the game have problems with the ESRB.

In Fallout 3 Bethesda was forced to change the names of the drugs in the game. For example, Med-X was originally called Morphine but they were forced to change it.

If they did, it should start to affect you in more ways than just a stat boost. Your character should be able to become drunk is basically what I'm saying. lol

I know it's strange but read my other post. Fallout 3 had to change the names of all the drugs in the game. Maybe they just wanted to avoid an unnecessary issue whether there would have been one or not.

That's an awesome idea. Kind of like sleeping tree sap but more realistic and prolonged.

Yes, yes, great idea!

Getting drunk in the taverns you would become beligerant and invoke bar brawls. This would be great because I've been wanting more brawls!

Drink night at the forums. I'll bring the strawberry cream sodas!

I'm assuming much of the Nord Mead is just recycled bottles. The stronger stuff might be banned by the East Empire Trading company. They did have a booze ban in one of the forts in Morrowind. They might be less crazy with bans now, but they refuse to bring in moon shine. Those Revelers may be drinking moonshine. The bandits? They may steal that mead, but they put some cider in it. Your drinking buddy? He brews his own stuff if he owns a house.

There is Cyrodiilic Brandy, though it's ridiculously hard to get hold of. There's also Stros M'Kai Rum, but that only exists for a radiant quest.

Nothing native to Skyrim though.

Oh well I don't want to get my hopes up but I'm still praying for a palinka mod. Perhaps I'll make one. :D

It might be more than that. It might be http://www.productwiki.com/upload/images/cocaine_energy_drink.jpg. Cocaine is known to be spicy.
