Love Hircine's ring! You don't have to be a full fledged werewolf in order to use the abilities. They just happen randomly, which is good for me.

This svcks, I had the ring for ages in my original save and I didn't bother using it because I wasn't a werewolf yet.

So does this mean when you're doing the quest you can actually turn at any time when wearing the ring even if you aren't a werewolf ??

No, you can't turn at will. You transform at random times giving an edge to unpredictable gameplay and how to deal with such situations.

Oh right, I had that and never turned once during the quest. I thought it only turned you if you were already a werewolf.

Did you have it on or just in your inventory? How long did it take you to finish the quest?

On second thought, I think you DO actually have to be a werewolf for this to work. I just figured that because the description said, "Causes the wearer to become a werewolf at random", that it meant, you would just become one regardless. Now that I think about it, you had it right.
