Heya,

I've rummaged around in the net a bit, and I couldn't find a solution to the problem I have. Avulstein stands battle-ready with an axe where I'm supposed to meet him outside the Northwatch keep, but I can't talk/activate him. He just stands there. I can't 'wait' because apparently there are 'enemies nearby'. I've tried reloading my savegame and restarting the game, nothing helps. Does anyone know whats going on?

I have no idea. Try talking to the other guys with him? If that doesn't work run towards to fort and start attacking maybe that will drag him out to help you

I just tried that...got the guards killed and Avulstein runs in and tries to kill me.

It might be this bug here?

i've got a similar problem with this quest and i wasn't able to find anything about it on the web

when i stole the book from the house of the battleborns i went back to avulstein

he says: "any news? did you find something?" but i can't reply to his question. therefore i also can't continue this quest

Does anyone know how to fix this?

Funny. I'm just about to play that quest myself. I've played it at least five times with other characters and never had any problem. Okay, must go!

Must admit I've never had a problem but then I've never actually taken him with me - I always tell him to stay in hiding.

Finished it yesterday and everything went fine. So, I have no clue as to why it's not working for you, sorry.

what if you just attack the thalmor and fall back towards Avulstein? I've played around with this quest a lot with my one character because the thalmor were pretty strong. When I made the thalmor turn hostile, Avulstein and co. immediately rushed to my help and the quest got an update (I hadn't talked to A. first because I wanted to try taking on the whole fort by myself).

By the way, are you on pc? You can always force the quest to proceed via the setstage command. I believe there's a phase which causes Avulstein to get into action and attack the thalmor.

Avulstein was fine until I got back with the stolen proof about his brother... then he attacked the heck outta me. I tried just killing him but, of course, you can't. I ended up leaving Whiterun and doing some other stuff, waiting a couple days, then went back. He acted as though we never tussled and I went about the quest as normal.
