Staff Making

Post » Sun Feb 03, 2013 2:33 pm

I'm not sure if anyone has brought this up, but you can actually enchant Staffs.

You need to speak to Neloth about something, and do a quest, then you can buy unenchanted Staffs from him, and enchant them.
I havn't actually done the quest yet though, but the Staff Enchanter is in a locked room. I believe Neloth opens it up after the quest.

You can only make general staves. The staves that already exist in the vanilla game.

True but

Spoiler
the incinerate and icy spear are available to make at least (did not see chain lightning nor thunderbolt :( ). The high Destruction staves are extremely hard to find in vanilla, thus staff making is worthwhile at least)

Oh! Absolutely! I don't look at anything in the game as really being useless....except, the AI of the dogs.

However, all but two of the staves in the game are not very attractive to me. If the Staff of Magnus actually worked properly it would be THE best. None the less. Staves don't get any real duration to them unless you are skilled in that school. And if one is skilled then they can usually cast a more powerful spell anyway. I would just have been more excited had the new enchanter offered a little more.

While I welcome ALL additions, I am more excited over some than others.

Agreed about the staff of magnus...the best looking staves aren't very useful as in the staff of magnus and the skull of corruption. Wabbajack is fun to mess with but not really practical and the silver destruction staff key is ok but a pain to get and continue the quest

Also agree about dogs, yap, yap, in my way, yap, yap, SMASH...silence ;)

Staff or summon storm elemental sounds nice however.

Miraaks staff isn't very attractive. But I absolutely LOVE his sword. The tentacle animation is sick, it weighs nothing, and with all smithing perks and levels, plus the silverblood family ring (or w/e its called) and my armor enchants it does a fair deal of damage

Miraaks sword would be put under the daedra smithing perk for improving it. Does anyone know what perk it is for upgrading Miraaks mask gloves and boots? because I always have to use dragon aspect which doesnt last long.

Yeah, the Staff of Storm Atronach is really nice. I made one at the Atronach Forge on my Argonian Mage when he was a real low level and used it to bum rush the Winterhold questline for Equilibrium (Restoration training for Necromage perk). Was especially useful for tanking/killing Morokei at the end of it. Plus, you can give a Staff of Storm Atronach to your followers, and they'll start off each fight by summoning a Storm Atronach, then switching to their usual weps.

I think its funny how they purposely made it so you couldn't use Mage Armor perks with the Robe Set. When I do my Anicent DB Build I'll have to rely on Dragonhide or something when using his robe set or just forget about AR all together for my Mage.

I've got 100 smithing and every perk. The only item of Miraaks I could upgrade was the sword. And now everytime I attack I feel like I'm albert wekser in resident evil 5

a good combintation is Konahriiks mask with Miraaks robes boots and gloves. The mask is a bit boring. You cant even improve it at the bench.

Silver destruction staff?
yes it's a special dragon destruction staff found during the skyrim main quest
Spoiler
it's the staff that's the key to the portal of sovngarde and can be obtained with the slow time shout and some quick killing of nahkriin, looting him and jumping in the portal before it closes

Staff making would be awesome! If it is possible to make Thunderbolt staves... I will make a lot of them then give them all to Derkeethus!

From what I understand, it seems like making good quality staffs depends on your enchanting skills, and also depends on the element. For example, if you have 100 in enchanting, and have say 98 in destruction, your staff that you craft will be a heck of a lot stronger / more powerful than if your enchanting was say 50 and your destruction was say 68. Hope that makes sense.

So for me, a sorceress, I would benefit from this as if I needed "fire-power" and my magicka was low, I could craft a better staff than some of the ones that I would find. I will have to give it a try. I have not tried staff making yet.

I'm maxed out in skills so I can easily benefit this on my main...

Other characters? No so much...
