I've fully completed the main questline in the new DLC after about 6 hours... After about an hour of exploring and side quests i came across a Stalhirm Bow and Stalhirm Cuiress, general curiosity but how can i obtain the full armor and other weapons for this type? It looks sick!

A guy in the Skaal says you need the Ebony smithing perk to craft it. There might be a set scattered around the island, but I haven't found any parts so far.

I've found on one of the side quests a Nordic Pick Axe, and in a dead adventurers notes it states 'no ordinary axe can mine it'... I used this Axe and it works so i have Stalhrim to Craft/Upgrade, but i was just curious as to whether you had to find the set in the wilderness/caves/ruins and such.

you need the ebony smithing perk and skaal training in order to craft stahlrim. You can also loot it/get it off vendors (ive seen it at the brother of Delvin Mallorey). I don't know if dragonborn DLC items will be sold by vanilla blacksmiths.
and they can of course drop randomly.

If you don't mind using light armor, you might keep your eye open for the book called 'deathbrand', it rewards you with a nice little stahlrim light armor set.

I'm yet to loot it from a body, i seem to be encountering quite a significant amount of Dragonscale and Daedric on this island though; which is cool. But thanks guys, i'll set off for this Blacksmith quest in a jiffy.

Oh and i already have complete Deathbrand Armor- Awesome!

i cant seem to try this quest, because:
1. Deor woodcutter isnt there for me at skaal village, so im guessing he died
2. its a glitch, because the blacksmith for skaal village is there but deor isnt.

help? :/ i really want to craft this set/

I'm the same. I know that Deor the woodcutter was killed by the stone guardian (the only skaal to be killed), so does this mean i can't ever craft stalhirm armour?

I'm not too sure my friend, but i do know that the actual quest comes from the blacksmith himself... See if there's a way you can get it out of him via speech dialogue? Good luck.

Is it better than daedric? I feel like it should be but it probably isn't...

I'm pretty confused as well.

Don't think Deor is dead, I think he is the one just permanently staring at the Skaal Chieftain so he isn't much help.

I've got that sinking feeling I'm bugged....

It has the same armor rating as dragonplate and dragonplate has a higher armor rating then deadric for me, all at legendary.

Total armor rating with full Stahlrim heavy armor and Spellbreaker is at 402. It is the same with Dragonplate and Spellbreaker. Of course, it could be different depending on your enchantments and heavy armor skill level.
