Starting Fallout

So, Fallout NV came in the mail, i open it up and download it. The downloading went smoothly and there were no problems whatsoever. I click play from Steam menu, and the main window opens up and I click play, a screen opens up saying, "Failed to initialize renderer. Hardware T&L required but not supported by Adapter."

I am completely clueless to what the phrase above means, but i think it relates to the fact that the game is not on my gaming computer. If you know what it means, PLEASE do tell, much appreciated.

It means get a better computer, or at least a new graphics card.

Yeah. It means that the card doesn't support hardware transform and lighting. Which means that it's probably onboard, or the video card is +3-4 years old. Sometimes that stuff is fixed in driver updates and can be done by sneaky software fixes, but most of the time no.

1. Do you know what graphic card you have on your computer?
2. Is it an on-board graphic chip?
3. You need a graphic renderer that supports hardware acceleration, which means, you need a "modern" graphic card (post 2000/2001) - any card with DirectX 9 support will do.

Older model Intel onboard chips, pre-2008 or so, failed that same way. The game requires an actual, discrete, separate add-on circuit board for the graphics, exactly as per the Fallout 3 requirements (forget the absolute foolishness of the so-called "requirements" suggested by Obsidian, which are pretty much MEANINGLESS).

What are the Fallout 3 (PC) system requirements?

Minimum System Requirements:

* Windows XP/Vista
* 1GB System RAM (XP)/ 2GB System RAM (Vista)
* 2.4 Ghz Intel Pentium 4 or equivalent processor
* Direct X 9.0c compliant video card with 256MB RAM
(NVIDIA 6800 "GS" or better/ ATI X850 or better)
{Added my note here, the X800 Pro & up also, and
avoid the Geforce 6800 SE, and 6800 XT}
