I'm starting to think the AI is cheating at Blackjack

Post » Wed Oct 01, 2008 10:16 am

So I'm starting to get a little weird about playing Blackjack. I could SWEAR a few times I played, and when I lost, the numbers would be a little higher than 21. Is this just my imagination, or is this a known issue? :unsure2:

You might have counted the cards wrong, it would be nice if they implemented the number your and the dealer's cards equaled like in Red Dead Redemption, because it can be really hard to read the way the light hits it sometimes.

Well IIRC, 'royal' cards are tens right? Because about 20 mins ago, I got a queen, a jack, and a three. Isnt that 23? Or am I counting things up wrong? :unsure2:

@Josephs Pun-, I guess those cards are determined to DOUBLE my losses. YEEEEEEAHHHHH :disguise:

So you're saying the game was rigged from the start? ;-)

Sorry, couldn't help myself. I haven't tried blackjack, but it wouldn't surprise me one bit if it's as bugged as caravan. The wiki only shows a http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/Blackjack#Bugs

Ok, that really svcks. Let's all say it together now:

"I hope they fix this in the next patch."

Rinse, Repeat.

Imagination probably. I haven't had much problems reading the cards but I've had trouble following what cards actually go on at times. It honestly happens at a pace that's a bit bad for people with slow reactions.

Like one of the posts above said, a counter would of been nice for the most part, especially considering that it could of been fitted in a number of places worked that made it both compact, I.E. stick to the corners, and/or make it relate to what hand is which, as you can split hands after all.

All casino games are effected by Luck, be it cards, slots or roulette which makes counting cards utterly pointless as your Luck will literally reshuffle the deck. And of course even with a table off of players you only see yourself and the dealer. So there's nothing to fix in a patch because its not a bug, if you have a Luck stat present in the game it makes perfect sense for it to effect gambling.

I've got a luck of 7, thats high enough. I just think luck shouldnt affect the gambling like it does. I would rather it just randomly chance it all, luck just provides a chance for the game to force you a win.

i think it's happened to me a few times. Occasionally I could swear I got 21, but the game counts it as a bust. Other times I swear the dealer has 22, but the game makes him winner. I could be imagining things, and I hope I am. But at any rate, it only happens maybe 1 out of every 20 hands and isn't really that big of a deal.

You know I thought you were talking about "counting cards" the tactic to play at blackjack not simply adding up your hand.

Your right its 23 so you bust, doesn't matter what the dealer got. If the dealer busts the only way to lose is if you also bust.

No no no, by 'I' I meant the dealer got 23 on my hand, and I lost with a 20 in my cards. Thats where my confusion is.

It's not common, but something isnt right. About every three out of five hands, I get, say....a 20, and it will 'coincidentally' get the exact same number I got, which, for having a luck of 7, which is pretty high, I have a feeling something is going that shouldnt be.

Having a luck of 7, without using any bonuses, is nothing but frustrating especially at places like Sierra Madre.
When you have a luck of 7, naughty nightwear and lucky shades, everything is much easier.

All I know is that I've come real close to punching one of those card dealers in the face. The thing that annoys me the most is that the dealer always seems to have a better hand than you, usually by just 1 or somethin'.

Try gambling with 10 luck. You think it cheats? You'll get Ace and 10 on everything.

Luck plays a huge factor in blackjack I have found.
Many, many, many, many times I have seen the computer deal itself this combo 70%+ of the time ten + face, or king + king, queen + queen, often both of the same suit.
I played on one day two casinos and came up with 11 blackjacks dealt for myself, only to get tied with the computer dealing itself blackjack as well.
I see almost constantly a 5 - 7 flop coming up 21, for the computer to beat my 19 - 20.
5 luck or under I hit face, 2, face draws frequently, allmost astonshingly so.

This may be me as I see patterns often, and am highly paranoid about computer random generators..
Due to that they require no skill and are prone to looping, getting cheated irl I can cope with however ( note I don't believe the computer is cheating, thats just my paranioa. )

In NV I don't think it's completely random either, some casinos seem to loose more frequently for me, combined with the luck stat it has more chances to go wrong.

The best way to beat the casinos is quite frankly have more money then they do, play the odds long term make bets of 80 - 100 and keep playing.
Then to speed this up set your luck at 7+, whether by base stats, or naughty nightwear and the implant.

Oh god, this is why I love TVtropes

@Madoc-Thats something I thought was just me.

"I have a 19. I CANNOT LOSE!"
-computer draws 20-
-Uses colorful words that the forum wouldnt like me saying-

Seriously, when it magically beats me by one number 3-6 times all I can think is "HAAATTTTEEE BEEAAMMSS"

It's to teach you not to go to real Vegas.

The house really does have a nearly unbeatable advantage.
