Starting a YouTube gaming channel

As the name of this thread implies, I want to start a YouTube channel much like that of the Yogscast, Totalbiscuit, Jesse Cox and other popular YouTube users' channels. For now though, I don't really care about earning any money and don't want to make anything awfully frequent of it. It is just something enjoyable to do once a week or so. However, I have a couple of questions I need help on, which I have listed below.
  • What is some good, free software to record part of my computer screen (I will be running the games in windowed mode)?
  • Since unedited gameplay footage would just be awful to watch, what is some good (again free as I don't want to invest in anything until I am serious) editing software that I can use to cut out any mistakes I may make or long-winded and uninteresting scenes?
  • What is a good channel name and general branding to go with? When trying to gain some subscribers, what should I be avoiding? How often should I upload? All of the general stuff, really.
