Has anyone bought this game from xbox live arcade? It's a rather fun title that'll tide me over until Dead State comes out later this year.

I really want to try it out but I do not have a 360. I hear its coming out later on PC though, so I'll probably pick it up then.
Have some friends on XBL raving about it so out of curiosity i checked out some scrrenshots and lets plays of it. Looks poorly made, low-budget, boring characters and in general just pretty mediocre. imo of course.
Low-budget doesn't really describe quality and it's a gameplay first kind of game.
It's actually quite good and there's a ton of depth to the gameplay. They handled the survival mechanics very well. There are some graphical problems like pop-in and clipping but nothing game breaking.
I wrote a http://plus10damage.com/blog/2013/6/12/ambition-and-depth-outweigh-a-lack-of-polish-state-of-decay-review of it, if anyone is interested.
Visually it's stunning. I find the gamepaly to be great and the survival aspects are very well done. This is not really a casual game, though. If you make a bad move at the start, it can cause huge problems later.
EX. I fully upgraded a base early on, only to find few materials when I moved to another base to build with. An argument between survivors now could lead to them leaving later.
There are some bugs. The worst ones are getting terminated in the next patch, though. I really do suggest you atleast try the demo. It will grow on you.
Importantly, do not think of it as like a GTA with zombies, but as a survival simulation with the ability to control individual community members.
AND FOR GOD SAKES! DO NOT PLACE ALL YOUR BETS ON ONE CHARACTER!
People seem to like it a lot. Looking forward to playing it when it comes to PC eventually.
Played the demo on its release and I enjoyed it very much. It has a bit of a 'Walking Dead' vibe. So far, it seems quite successful and I can't wait to purchase it.
It's nothing like the Walking Dead. Story is almost non-existent .
I think it is in more ways than you may think. While the story is almost not even there, you get a true connection to the world and the survivors. If someone dies, you feel bad that you didn't do all you could to save them. You feel a genuine sense of dread when you get stuck with little health in a field far from home. In a way, YOU make a story that is just as emotionally charged as TWD can be. I don't know how, but it's almost impossible to not feel something for the virtual guys in the game. You will find the ones you hate and wish every second will die, but then you also have the ones that you will miss when they pass.
Then the in-group drama, the disease, and the constant threat of attack just adds to it all.
So ya, I think the two are really similar. They both have you connect with the characters. Difference is; one, you watch the story unfold, and the other you make the story unfold.
