Stats for a Jack of All Trades?

Post » Thu Jun 28, 2012 8:23 pm

I'm a Ps3 player and I'm level 81 (Yes I used the Oghma Infinium Glitch), I was wondering as to what stats are good for a "Jack of All Trades"?

I'm thinking:

Magick: 500

Health: 350

Stamina: 250

Any thoughts please?

That's about what one of my Spell-sword characters ended up at, except loads less magicka (stopped around level 60).

Any more health, and it's not fun because nothing can kill you; but too much magicka and nothing can last long enough against you to be a challenge. Stamina, though, means longer sprints and more power attacks. I've recently been focusing on Stamina-heavy characters, and it's been really nice.

On one of my characters, with whom I decided to do the Fortify Restoration to get all of my spell reduction to precisely 100% for all 5 schools (lots of work went into that, I'll tell you that right now), I didn't put any in magicka, 300 in Stamina and the rest into Health. I always value health the highest, and I think how much magicka you get depends on if you plan on doing enchanting to lower cost.

I would do a lot less Magicka, and add more to Health and a bit of Stamina. IMO Magicka is fairly unnecessary in the endgame. At level 81, with the right perks, you shouldn't need much Magicka to cast enough spells to win most battles. And you can always throw in enchantments to lower it even further (or just remove Magicka cost outright for two schools). If you're playing a jack-of-all-trades type build, you probably won't be relying on more than one school of Mgicka as a key aspect of every battle. Generally, you rely on one school, and add a bit of support from others as needed... And you can always keep a spare enchanted necklace and ring for a total of 50% spell reduction in two different schools than your primary gear's enchantments, just in case. So yeah, assuming you pick up a few perks in Enchanting (which you definitely should) you don't need anywhere near that much Magicka. You could do fine with around 250.

Stamina is a wild card; it depends on how you play. If you're going sword/shield, you'll probably be doing a lot of power attacking and sheild bashing, in which case, definitely invest more in Stamina (maybe 300-350). But if you're not going to be using a shield as much, and can rely on Illusion or Alteration to help keep enemies at bay, I'd spend the extra points in Health. Granted, my personal philosophy has always been: when in doubt, take Health.
