Work on your archery? I find that to be the safest way to take them down anyway

I play a stealth killer who tries to maximize his 15x bonus whenever possible, but come on - it's a dragon. Its head is the size of your whole body. You're going to need something larger than a knife.

I pack a nice Legendary Daedric sword for just such an occasion.

The way I see it the problem is 100% yours nothing is stopping you from engaging the dragon with swords which have a better reach and thus an advantage when facing a dragon.

Dragons are easy enough as it is on expert and below. They don't need to be nerfed any more. No one would think to attack an elephant witha couple of knives so why would you think it's ok to attack an even larger creature with armored skin. It's silly enough as it is that i can run up and damage it with my sword much less a dagger.

Bust out the swords or leave dragon slaying to another character.

It seems to me that stealth characters are underpowered against dragons. My character has 100 in sneak and all the perks for it and uses two daggers. Here are the problems:

+Dragons always see you even with 100 sneak unless there are other people/creatures around.
+The highest level perk - shadow warrior- doesn't work at all with dragons
+Daggers seem to be too short with dragons and often my character is as close as possible to the dragon (running into them) and can't hit them. You have to hit them is specific places like it's face, specific locations on the neck, specific spots on the tail. Hits on the wings and certain parts of the back totally miss.
+Dragons that are sitting on their perch (like Shearpoint) are too high to get a sneak hit on. You have to hit them with a bow or magic, thus revealing yourself. Also, if you are not playing a bow-thief or shadow-mage, you will not have invested enough to do much damage with those options.
+If you are lucky enough to be around other creatures (shadowmare works ok) the dragons don't land long enough to sneak up on to hit.

This is a pretty big deal given that dragons are crawling all over the map and are so intertwined with the main story-line.

Bethesda, are you working on this?

Bethesda working on your characters weakness? lol?

Invisibility makes the dragons not see your dagger sneaker. problem solved.

Op has a fair point that i've wondered about myself. Stealth characters lack significant damage output outside of sneak criticals if they main dagger wi/sneak. Though there's not much can be done about it. Theoretically a sneak character would go into sneak to avoid a dragon rather than fight it, but that's not much fun. Best bet? Lot's of poisions.

My one and only character is a stealth/dagger/light armor assassin. Dragons are no problem. To be honest, for the first 10 levels, you should be a duel wielding swords and not daggers. The reason being is that your stealth won't be all that high and you will have to go toe to toe with enemies. This is a good thing since taking the hits will get your light armor skill up. If you are not bothering with illusion, then hp is really the only thing you need to invest points in. Maybe a bit in stamina to bring it to 150 or 200 by the time you get to level 50.

Once I got the assassin's blade perk is when I switched to a daggers. By this time I could kill one bandit with others nearby and not get detected by them from killing the first guy. My light armor was decent enough at this point. The thing is that dragons are hard to sneak up on (I've even moved an item while sneaking so I could stand on it and reach the dragon) and you basically need the db gloves for the x30. So swords will do more damage than daggers out of sneak and you should always have some. Also attack the dragon from the side if you can.

There is a youtube video of a guy 1 shotting a dragon with daggers. He does die jumping off a cliff but only to see the dragon die.

Some help:
Alchemy to get some nasty damage potions.
2x critical gloves.
1 handed crit ability (dagger x15 is nice but i like the one handed skill better)

Its a start. But really you need range if a squishy assassin style.

I agree, this game needs some serious balance. You would not believe how underpowered my Telekinesis Mage is when fighting dragons! I mean it takes me like 50 pieces of thrown silverware just to kill a wolf, and a few thousand to kill a dragon! My plate chucking mage should be every bit as viable as a bow and arrow warrior.

In all seriousness though, it isn't really reasonable to expect daggers to compare to a broadsword when trying to kill a dragon.

Giant Flying Lizard with Words of Power vs. Person with Tiny Knives trying to Sneak Attack...

Winner seems pretty obvious. Use a Bow, or a bigger melee weapon.

Bethesda, are you working on this?

I doubt so.

Given that basic mages can get one-shotted by dragur deathlords and basic warriors have some problems with frost using mages, it is actually rather fair since the basic stealth hero is almost unopposed.

At this point you want to mix up abilities from other archetypes.
