I have just created a Khajitt with stealth specialized. Im level 7 and Just used 2 of my perks yet and I haven't got any problem while playing on the highest difficulty. I could recommend you using bow with stealth to start a combat and finish them off with Flame or some high damaged 2 Hand mace when they came close to you. Being faster then them is the key here, thats why I'm using light armors. I will keep on doing this until I decide what to get my perks on (probably dual dagger after I got my x15 backstab damage stealth perk). Also check this: http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1259812-daggers-viable/page__st__20

edit: It's a general tip, but if you are having some hard time dont hesitate to use some potions with healing effect or so
edit 2: try walking slower and use light armor if you are easily detected while stealthed

Melee companions help a lot. They aren't stealthy, but when they are noticed, it takes the enemy's attention off of you, so you are able to do repeat sneak attacks on them. It gives you more damage, and takes the heat off of melee combat for you. Assuming you are ranged, though it would help with daggers too.

1. Use a bow with poison arrows to weaken or sneak kill them

2. Invest in Sneak/Destruction perks(maybe archery too)

3. Know when to run. Your an assassin which means you kill without anyone knowing. If your target spots you and your unsure you can beat him just run and come back once you have a better plan.

4. Don't die

No matter what kind of character you play, you are playing a combat video-game, which means you need at least one kill skill..
For a stealth character the bow is best..

"kill skill" means that you will max out the equipment and perk investments for that skill.
If there is a better weapon, you go get it!!
If there are better arrows, you buy better arrows!!
If there are unspent perks, you spend them in your kill skill!!

I play as someone who rarely kills (lvl 12, 3 human kills) but I have two kill skills (one handed and archery)
