So here it is i wait 1 hour in the freezeing cold just to get a usless disk so i half to come home and fight with a million ppl b/c now i half to download the game from steam wich is going to take 7 hours omfg this is fracking [censored] why did they half to do that chit they knew steam servers could not handle the load that they have thanks bethesda for making this a bunch of bs you can keep your game and your bible i want my money back steam is horrible servers svck and wtf happens to the ppl that does not have net? they get shafted outta 60 big ones just to come home to be pissed off can you say duke nukem i will be taking this [censored] back tm when game stop opens steam is the reason ppl pirate...

PC - Installing Skyrim from disk, not steam

Hey. For all those who will be installing skyrim from retail copies, sometimes steam will actually install the game from the servers (download) and not from your disc. This is a workaround. Works for steamworks games only, and does not work until the official launch time.

Using Steam launch options to install retail games from disc
Log in to Steam and click on Library.
Right-click on the game, select Delete local content, and confirm.
Insert the first disc into your computer.
Close Steam (Steam > Exit).
Press Windows Key + R to open Run
In the Run window type:

"C:\Program Files\Steam\Steam.exe" -install E:

Replace E: with the CD/DVD drive you are installing from if is not correct.
Replace C:\Program Files\Steam if your Steam installation is not in the default location.
Press OK. Steam will launch and ask you to sign in if you do not have your password saved. Your installation should continue from the disc.

Note:
This process is only intended for retail store bought copies of Steam games (ie. Left 4 Dead, Modern Warfare 2). It will not work for backup discs of any Steam games

Despite installing from disc, I read that you still have to download an extra 200MB, presumably some last minute patch. So brace yourself for a possible long download time regardless.

THANK YOU!!!

OMG SO many of us including me did not know we could do this!! I stopped the game download at 50% and still am saving a ton of time! 200 mb update (even it is that large) is nothing compared to 5g DL then install.

For future reference, the word you are looking for is "have", not "half".

I have a disc too and steam allways start the download...
I stoped it, after 5 min Steam starts again with the download

So nice. I downloaded 5GB and i have the Disc. FUKC OF STEAM!
I hate this program so much!

Is it really so hard, to make it easy for the consumer?

AND WHY IS THERE NO BUTTON TO DELETE THE STEAM DOWNLOAD OF THE GAME?!?!

I cant disable this download function... just stop it, and it starts again HAHA

!!!!! Will Bethesda Softworks pay my bill if i come over my download limit?

What I have a problem with, is I pre ordered from D2D. I downloaded Skyrim, 5g or so. Only to be sent to steam, which I havent used in so long I couldnt even remember my account. So I made another account, and then to have to redownload the same 5g again. And I got a pre download that now will take me another 8 hours before I am playing. Should have just went to Best Buy, or Game stop. God this game is starting out bad, it better be the best game there ever was. Or I will not ever buy a PC version of Bethesda game again.

Sorry but that does not work.

Stream won't let you download because the game is not release. By stream or DVD.

If the game is not release how the F__K is everyone else able to play I wonder.

Ok, the thread has turned to rants and the fix and link is in the thread already.
