Steam - Error

Post » Fri May 27, 2011 11:22 am

The Steam servers are too busy to handle your request at the moment. Please try again in a few minutes.

Is the message I've been getting for allmost an hour now. Apparently the entire planet is trying to download the game. Anyone else having this issue?

I've been in the same boat, for 3hr and 50mins. No matter where I change my region to it has no help at all (yes I have gone through the entire list by now). Put in a ticket and no answer from steam yet. It really pisses me off because others have been playing on the pc for hours.

Watch out with that error message.
Often the Steam servers are okay, but there is some time-out going on (and Steam assumes it's the servers, but it can be something else altogether).

You internet connection is okay? Not downloading anything or have any other programs using your internet connection?

I mostly get that error when I'm using my phone (3G) for internet. Apparently that gives a lot of time-outs.

I checked that first, only one messenger and steam using any traffic at all (and this browser now). I'm going to restart in a few though, hoping it's just something running that I can't find. If not it's steams side which is what I expect.

I had that error and it took me 45 minutes to get it fixed.
First I tried reinstalling steam by using the 'repair' function with the installer.

Eventually I ended up switching from the Houston server to Dallas.

That seemed to work but I maiy have just been lucky.

This was with the steam install of the game. Playing it now but it was a most frustrating install.

I purchased and I'm downloading at 2.5 mb/s right now, try exiting steam completely and try again, should connect you to a diff server.

My internet connection is fine, and am not running anything that would cause it. I have a 24.9 Mbps download and 4.89 Mbps upload speed atm. I used Steam on a newly released game years ago and it was a headache then too.

Just restarted the PC, nothing but steam running and it still gets the error.

Did it, still getting the error.

Tried every server on the list, all my other steam games work fine, I even verified the game data again and nothing.

This is something on steams end, valve time it probably won't be fixed for another 12hrs. Any Bethesda employees out there that can contact Valve and see if we can get an update? They don't seem to reply to us little folk.

Bumping for hopes that a Bethesda mod will see this and give Valve a call.

This unable to connect error is only coming up with FNV.

What can a Mod do? They are just like you or me. Common folk who represent the forums not the company. If they called Valve, then you may as well call Valve. Did you call them? If not why not?

On forums like these most mods have access to devs, they would be able to get info we can't. If you know anything about steam you'd know us contacting them is useless.
That's not saying I haven't contacted them, I actually still have tickets in waiting for a response.

OK now that we have a pc issues forum, how did you guys get around the steam verification? A specific server location? I'm pretty much out of ideas at this point and think I might just contact Valve for a refund if I can't get it running shortly.

another damn reason this steam bs needs to be abandoned and the old way of playing pc games needs to be reimplemented.

I'll try repeating what I said above. I had the same issue this Am around 2.30.

Fixed it by 3:15am after much hair pulling and some rage.

Short story:

The round about I went was to download the steam installer. Run it and let it 'repair' my steam installation. I had to do that twice.
Ran steam again okay and it did connect but in the end I had to SWITCH the server I was using which was Houston to the Dallas,TX server.

It downloaded something and then the game launched fine.

I do have the steam 'version' of the game.

There has to be a mod, admin, or dev out there that has an answer. I'll be going for a refund shortly, if this isn't fixed.

I *wish* that had fixed it for me! I went through all of the steps - uninstalled my anti-virus and everything - went into msconfig and launched with no startup items - still no luck. Finally uninstalled Steam and re-installed it. Now I get an all-new error! "Could not connect to Steam network. This could be due to to a problem with your Internet connection, or with the Steam network." Now, the program had updated prior to this error, so I *know* that it was able to connect to *some* Steam server somewhere. Prior to purchasing Fallout: New Vegas, I played Knights of the Old Republic on Steam just fine, and I even tested downloading Alien Swarm with no problem. So now I sit here with an unplayable game.... I hope the rest of you are having fun for me. :banghead:

If you have the DVD edition and have Advanced System care's latest edition you will get this message. Uninstall ASC and try. Worked for me.

I personally would like to understand why I purchased a hard copy o the game if I still have to pull 4.6gb off of steam! That in itsself is f(*&^#$g stupid. Ans once more, at the only connection speed I have, i is still estimated to be 5 hours to get it downloaded!

This appears to be fixing it for me! I *thought* that just disabling ASC and starting the computer with Startup Items disabled would bypass any potential conflict...but apparently not. Thank You Very Much for this solution! In about 20 minutes I will hopefully be joining all of you in the New Vegas fun (and frustrations). :celebration:

This worked for me, my problem has grown though...
Went from having the game and not being able to connect, to after 20 or so validation checks steam deleting the whole thing. So now I'm back at square one and have to redownload it...
What I don't get is if ASC is the culprit, why isn't it coming up in any of the logs?
