My STEAM Nightmare

Post » Fri Feb 15, 2013 8:53 am

My wife decided to buy me a copy of SKYRIM for Christmas(we are on a very tight budget and this was my big present). She saw a person on EBAY who was selling the game and bought it.When the game arrived at our home....we found out it was not a copy of the game...but a torn off piece of tablet paper with a STEAM account name ,password and email address. I have had almost zero interraction with STEAM in the past.Somewhat confused I logged onto STEAM with the account name and password on the paper. There was the game.So I started to play...still uncomfortable that I did not recieve what was represented on EBAY.. All was fine for about 30 days. Then when I went to log into the game....the script stopped and it asked for my password. My reaction ???? !!!! so I typed in the password(yes I had changed it from the original. It didn't work.I requested a password reset and one never reached my email box.My conclusion...someone has taken control of the account and changed the password and email address. I wrote to STEAM asking for help saying I think the account had been stolen. Two weeks later I recieved an email(you cannot call STEAM to talk to a human and get things resolved). The email was a form letter having nothing to do with my problem. I emailed again and waited a week.I got a response that said...its illegal to use another persons account and I had violated the STEAM rules. In my earlier email to STEAM I told them the STEAM account holder's name who sold me their account and that I had found several other recient complaints on EBAY from other people who were scammed the same way(yes they were selling SKYRIM). I told them I had bought the game via Paypal and could prove I bought the game.Their response was ..they would not refund my money ( DUHHHH...I never asked for that..I did ask them to persue the scammer). They said they would not tell me if they were going to persue the scammer or not. When I logged in to MY steam i found STEAM had put a constraint on the account saying it looked like my account had been hacked and to contact customer service. I wrote to them saying this was my account(I had purchased a product and played it on STEAm some time ago) and I did not hack it .Two weeks later I got a form letter saying I was a hacker...I had voiated STEAM rules...and my account was locked.I wrote back restating again all that had happened...how I was scammed...and not a hacker.I said I could prove via PAYPAL my purchase of what I thought was a game disk .I told them the name of the scamming Ebay account(and the visible complaints from other scammed customers who were also sold STEAM SKYRIM accounts) and the name on the STEAM scammers account. That was several days ago.Frankly I don't expect any STEAM response. They really seem to have zero reguard for game customers, resolving problems or STEAM account scammers.

THE GOOD NEWS.My loving wife bought me a physical copy of the game for Valentines day. I expect to be able to play tonight.

The lessons to be learned.....buy physical product from a compay who values you business and who will fix any problem . Have as little to do with STEAM as you can.

You can't buy used PC copies, the guy who sold it tried to scam you. Selling Steam account isn't allowed, and by logging in to an account that wasn't yours you did break the EULA.

Just to note, the retail version requires you to create a Steam account and link it to it, just as if you bought it straight from Steam. There's no non-Steam retail copy, it's required to play the game, and so the copy you have now will still need Steam.

So what your saying is that becuase you broke the Steam EULA by using someone elses account, and then got punished for it, it's Steam's fault?

im sorry but, really, you only have yourself to blame.

Steam is needed to activate the game, but you can play off line so it does not need to be messed with once it is activated.

You will still need to set up a free Steam account, no CC needed, in order to play the game.

I will close this as we have a Steam Thread in the Community Discussion section for topics or posts like this. Thank you.
