Is Steam required to use F:NV?

Post » Sun Jan 23, 2011 10:39 am

OK, so, I'm beginning to think that Steam is required to use the downloaded PURCHASED copy of F:NV. True? If I'd seen somewhere that this was only usable with Steam I never would have purchased it.

Please advise, thanks!

Yes, no way around it.

There's nothing wrong with steam, it makes it still moddable, more stable (imo) its free as well. No matter what type you buy (digital or hard case) you need steam, most games use it nowadays.

From my understanding Steam is only accessed when you install the game to validate it, it's not something you need to be connected to to play.

I haven't gotten it yet so I may be mistake but that's my understanding.

Speaking as a long-time user, Steam really isn't that bad. It lets you have what is essentially free Ventrilo servers and community organization as well as indexing your games. There have been issues in the past, but most of those are avoided by not being a doofus.

And yes, as Donner mentioned, it isn't some always-on DRM thing.

You don't have to be on the internet, you still need Steam open.

You should have looked at the box then, because it's all there. "This game requires steam to play." Just like every other steamworks game.

Sure. My advise is "svck it up and play anyway. Steam isn't that bad."

From what I understand, you can choose to only acces it once to register your game before you can play; nothing more. ;)

You still have to program open to play the game. But, you can have it in either online or offline mode.
