No steward, disappearing weapons, and a family question

Post » Fri Nov 16, 2012 11:25 pm

Hello all. I searched around for a few minutes but saw no mention of my topics. So here we go.

I have no steward, and built my house several days ago. I was wondering how to go about getting one. I have a follower currently. Does that mean I need to get rid of her before I can hire a steward? I am unsure and I don't want to tell her to leave if I don't have to. But so far there has not been one person hanging around my house asking for the job.

Next, I have to say I'm a little disappointed in what occured with some of my weapons. I made several glass cabinets in my armory room for unique, one of a kind weapons I've attained. Upon visiting my house after putting them in the cases, I found that some of them just completely disappeared with no explanation why. There went my Blades sword and Nettlebane dagger, among a few others. Why does this happen? I've lost rare items now because I thought I was safely storing them in my own house. I no longer use the glass cases at all. Has this happened to anyone else? Seems sort of like a rip off.

Last, I would like to know if it's a good thing to arm your family and give them weapons. Will they use them for protection, or just keep them in their inventory? It would be nice if they could defend themselves if needed.

Any NPC will defend themself, some even without being armed.

Always save before putting something unique in display cases, not because you might lose it, but because if it falls though (or sticks out of the display case) you could permanently change the way it sits in any display case, weapon rack or weapon plaque. if it escaped it will either be where you originally dropped it, under the display case, or just innocently floating around somewhere, most likely near the ceiling. I have yet to see anything vanish from a house, although I have had unique items sink through furniture and been unable to get them back. Nothing should go through the floor (if there is actually a floor there and not some some hole into the blue yonder) If it goes through a wall you will know, since your walls and possibly your entire house will vanish. Reloading a few times should displace anything hiding in a wall.

if your follower is Serana, do not dismiss her or ask her to wait, you never know if you will be able to get her back. You can have Serana and another follower. To get a house steward you need to bring a follower to the house, unless you want your housecarl as your steward. Not all followers can be stewards, you can either try out the ones you would like yourself, or there are several lists of NPC's available that others have found.

1. Bring any follower to your house, and then they're will be a new option "Will you like to be my steward" Or something

2. That's you, I don't get any of these glitches

3. Kids do not need protection as they already have a sword, as like any other kid they will run away screaming

Alright, I will try that out in my quest to find a steward. I do have Serena as a follower, so I don't want to dismiss her, as I don't know if I can get her back again. I will try talking to others.

I will also check my ceilings for lost weapons. I have checked all around the floor area but haven't found any of them. Maybe they will pop back up at some point. I'll try checking all around the area. I don't think I will be using the cases anymore because of this, which still slightly irritates me. I believe they should fix that.

Thanks for the replies! Any help is appreciated, and anyone can join in on the conversation if you like.

I put Nettlebane in one of the Hjerim dagger cases once, and it vanished, took me ages to work out where it was, it was floating above the stairs, must have gone past it lots of times before I eventually noticed. The lighting was not the best for finding magically floating daggers. I have not tried Nettlebane in a display case since, it is still in storage somewhere. But I will eventually cart it over to a new house to try it out, but in a slightly bigger display case.

I was trying out that Skull of Corruption last night for the first time, it sticks to everything but will not fit in any display case. It displays on the weapon racks and plaques sidewise though, I was not happy about that. Aussie tried it out on a few people, she has decided she needs no fancy staff that does not want to make a good trophy of itself and display so she can see it properly. Time will reverse and Erandur will be allowed to live yet again, I would rather have him than the staff, even if Aussie, like Braggen hardly ever uses followers. Pity Erandur cannot be a steward, he would have been first choice for both my main characters, Aussie would have married him, but he is not marriageable either. :(

So yes she tried killing him instead, but changed her mind.

The only problem I had with display cases IF the item is not laying flat. If the case closes on it and the item moves, then when I get back, the item will be out of the case. They are a real pain to use.
