No sticky to give game information on PS3 forum

Post » Tue May 15, 2012 10:26 pm

Curious about why there's no sticky asking people for the specifics of their game information on this forum. They have one on the PC forum. I've seen a couple requests from mods for people to provide their game info, but nothing from them that even looks like an attempt at official info gathering. This results in sporadic threads filled with some game info, come complaining, and some trolling.

tl;dr - Why is there no official sticky asking PS3 owners for information about their games?

Would love to know this! They will not give us info and then mods lock threads. It's a bunch of bull. Seriously tell us what's going on or let us trade the damn thing in!

From my understanding the pinned thread in the PC forum is there to college computer specifications of people who are experiencing crashes - this is not necessary when dealing with consoles since the hardware is largely uniform. This isn't to say that providing detailed information isn't helpful when reporting a problem, but with a PS3 the hardware configuration and drivers shouldn't be a factor unless it's a factor for everyone.

Simple answer: hardware varies vastly on PC. You have almost limitless combinations of hardware and software to take into account from multiple brand names. This means about 50 GPUs, CPUs, and RAM configs. Each. That's 50 X 50 X 50 possible configurations. And that's just an estimate. Then there's the drivers, multiple brand names, OS configs, and user optimizations. Millions of unique possibilities exist.

Bethesda already knows the PS3's setup, because what you have is all there is. No need to gather system info when you already know it. The only hardware that varies on PS3 is the hard drive, and only by size.

Doesn't the Xbox forum have it's own sticky about the texture problem?

My understanding was that someone was interested in gathering information about the size of save files and the length of time people had spent playing on the save files that weren't working. I know some people were providing detailed information about the quests they had completed, achievements, areas explored, etc. Is this not relevant to the issue?

Xbox does have a sticky about the texture issues. We should have a sticky here about the lag so that everyone could post their experience with it (time played, file size, details of what happens, links to youtube, hopes and dreams for the patch, sixual fantasies, etc.) but no such luck. The PS3 users are indeed the red headed step child of the Bethesda forums (/wrist).

There should be some legitimate variations for the PS3 version as well. Play time, file size, patched/unpatched, level....
I am really amazed they have not polled PS3 players... I know it is not the mods fault but the lack of any info really svcks. My game is not just laggy....it won't function.
The more info someone from beth provides the less complaining people would do here. I thank you for replying to us.
I'm sure the programmers could get something together....at least if someone would acknowledge the issue it would make people at beth seem way more professional.

The XBox post about textures simply suggests to just play off of the disc. The texture issue has an easy fix. Make a sticky so nobody keeps posting about the same thing over and over.

The issue with the PS3 has no fix. There has yet to be a definitive suggestion for a fix. If nobody knows how to fix it, then a sticky won't be made. It's the same reason why you don't see any stickies about bugs. There are no fixes for bugs. Only a patch will fix it.

A lag sticky would be great though. Something like..."We are aware of the long term play lag issues and are addressing them via the 1.02 patch. Your currently saved games will not need to be deleted for the fix to occur. In the meantime, start new characters (but don't let the autosave erase your old character!) and enjoy them until the 28th of November.."

Well...that's what I would do if I was a PR person to stop the enslaught of lag posts here. Or maybe contain them all in the sticky. I don't know.

I know it's not a sticky, but at least it's something.

I'm less worried about the lack of a stickied thread on their forums and more completely perplexed as to why Bethesda, given their known history of bugs, isn't gathering any kind of meaningful telemetry data across all platforms.

BioWare does this extensively and they still have bugs of a save data eating nature. (Mass Effect 2 and Dragon Age II)

Bug-tracking, debugging software, quality assurance and testers (which are actually listened to mind you), and all of that is great but nothing beats gathering telemetry data from end-users once your software has been released to the masses.

The fact that they don't do this in 2011 is a huge misstep of an oversight. :banghead:

For those of you making excuses about Bethesda's silence on the PS3 subforum:

From the above sticky:
We continue to monitor these boards (and elsewhere) for issues you're reporting. Be as specific as possible when reporting issues -- how many hours have you been playing, how many consecutive hours have you been playing, what level are you, how many quests have you finished, etc.

with that, it makes me wonder why they haven't made an attempt to organize information or post up any official sticky threads...

there is a specific sticky in the Xbox subforum about the texture streaming

They are ASKING us to provide all this information, but not providing a sticky thread. There's a reason why they're not bothering to respond on this subforum, and the more they ignore, the more it's degrades into trolling and complaint threads and drowning out any constructive posts.
