Still blue textures, using recommended driver, deleted confi

So unfortunately my shiny new NVIDIA 580GTX card died and had to be sent back to the shop, and now I'm using my old Radeon HD5850 again, and much to my surprise Rage *still* doesn't work with it. Unfortunately, in order to play Battlefield 3 optimally I had to use the latest 11.10 drivers, which are apparently known to still not work with Rage (really AMD/id? is it that hard to make your stuff work together?).

But, I do want to actually finish Rage some time, so I went ahead and installed the recommended preview 2 drivers anyway. But they don't actually seem fix the blue textures issue either for me, so then I went ahead and lowered all the graphics settings (because at this point, I don't care how craptastic the game looks, I just want to play it) as recommended in all the other topics dealing with the blue textures issue, but again the issue remains. As a last resort I just deleted the whole video.cfg file, but that didn't do anything either.

Sometimes I don't know why I put up with PC gaming, as much as I dislike playing shooters on a console, the amount of trouble I've had with Rage (and BF3, for that matter), drivers, and even the hardware itself are really beyond reasonable :(

Rage is the only game I won that has a problem with my 5700 HD series card. (SKYRIM,COD AND BF fun great!!!!!!) Not an AMD problem, just a carmack problem.

I have a pint glass.
Every day I put a pint of beer in it and it works great. Yummy beer.
One day I put a liter of beer in it and it overflowed, spilled all over the table, and made a mess.

Obviously the fault of the beer.

This problem is now gone with the 11.11 catalyst drivers, at last! I didn't feel like messing around with DLLs so I waited for these until I gave Rage another try. Sadly the performance is pretty bad no matter what my graphic settings are, and I do see some occasional geometry glitches. The texture cache setting doesn't seem to have any effect on the glitching or performance, but it looks a heck of a lot nicer when set to "large", much less texture 'popping'. Overall the game is at least somewhat playable now
