Probably never. There isn't a need to upgrade to DirectX 11, it has very few visible differences for the actual users...other then Tessellation, and I hardly see them going to the effort to do that.

And this is also why calling it just a 'patch' isn't really appropriate.

Also, that kind of effort for just a share of users of one single platform a year after the game came out simply doesn't make sense.

There is no need for one. Almost all of the functionality in DX 11 can be replicated in DX 9.c --albeit without the performance enhancements. DX 11 was a sales pitch to get everyone to upgrade their OS; hence there being hardly any DX 11 games out there.

edit -- replaced produced with replicated

DX10 did actually have some structuring improvement for the actual code....but you are correct, DX9c can do everything that DX11 can, though some of the more high end stuff is not optimised and cant really be done.

I personally prefer OpenGL for my rendering.

OpenGL is pretty good, but it's a shame that it's hardly supported by developers anymore. Very few games are in OpenGL these days. Then again very few things are Open these days too. Bad capitalists, bad!

OpenGL has had a bit of a resurgence recently once the developers of it got their act together....its still a very years behind though.

I like openGL, as it is cross-OS and cross-platform, unlike directX which is only good for windows or xbox360.

I doubt we'll ever see a DX11 patch. Personally, I'm not sure what it would add beyond what mods already do.

Guys , there is really some ignorance rampant around ... saying something like all what direct x 11 can do can be simulated by direct x 9 means you know nothing about what you are talking of , Direct x 11 is not just tessellation , but on top of that there would be lots of features that could be implemented into the game along with the enb that woudl make the game 1000 times better ... please Avoid posting nonsense like there is no need for direct x 11 , or it is not worth , because clearly shows you do not even know what they are .

As last note Todd said in the beginning befoure launch of Skyrim that there where some plans for a direct 11 patch ....

there had been similar patches for other games even after launch and even after months from the main release ... so don't talk nonsense please.

So ... are you saying if we have DX11 on our PC we can't run Skyrim? Or it doesn't run well? Or is this just a patch to utilize DX11 better?

Well, I don't know about you but I have a First Class Honours Degree in Artificial Intelligence and Computer Visualisation and Animation, a Masters in Learning Classifier Systems, and two years toward a PHD in Temporal Reasoning (I mostly do AI) and although it's been a while since I personally used either the OpenGL or DX APIs I work with people who do on a regular basis. So you can either choose to disbelieve me or do it a bit more research. We said that there was no need for one and that DX 9.c can replicate MOST of the same functionality. We made no remarks regarding its potential for other games.

You can type whatever you want and I can Claim to be the Us president as well , but the fact is that what you stated is totally wrong ,

De facto No features of DX11 can be replicated in Dx9 , and I do work with that stuff as well ,doing Image processing engeneering .

Hmm. I'd have thought that you would be able to see that your first statement renders your second redundant, but hey I don't like arguing on the internet so you win.
