In-Store vs. Digital Download

Post » Mon Nov 28, 2011 2:29 pm

I don't understand why people are so narrowminded they can only see their way of doing things as the only 'logical' way.

Because one needs logic to understand logic ?   :bolt:

I don't understand the logic of people wanting a physical object when a digital download is the same thing, except easier. Do these people still buy CD's or do they use iTunes? Same thing.

What an extremely silly/narrow-minded thing to say.

Ever heard of bathroom reading material? What, every time you go to the bathroom and want to flip through the Skyrim Manual, are you going to set up your desktop on your sink? Get real son.

Digital buyers are missing out on so much.

Source..?
This happens with *most* games, not all games.

So unless you have a source from Steam of Bethesda saying you can do that for Skyrim, aka preDL it before november 11th, my statement stands true.

have source to prove em wrong?

Every game that requires steam has that option. Most games without the requirement of Steam especially AAA titles have that option.

Each of the last few games published by Bethesda were available for download in advance on Steam and then unlocked on the release date. The purpose is not so much to provide a convenience for customers, but rather, to reduce the bandwidth demand on Steam's servers.

IIRC, Fallout New Vegas, Brink and Hunted unlocked at 12:01am PST.

RAGE unlocked at 12:01am EST (for US/Canada market).

I'd never use Steam for such a massive game, the download speeds vary so much for me. (However it helps if you change your server to Vietnam  ). Plus I just like having a physical copy, what if my internet messes up ? And you get the lovely cloth map if you preorder the physical copy and a manual. Furthermore Steam's actually a lot more expensive for games that have just been released compared to Amazon etc.

LOL, sorry but that's not how "source requesting" works.

If you say something, have a source to back it up. My claim, which refutes what he says, doesn't have to have a source, because I'm the one asking for a source.
You have gained internet knowledge, please rest to level up.

I want my own hard copy because I still cling to the fantasy that if I spend $60, then I actually own something.

They don't live in an area where landlines are not an option, like me. So it would take me 1-2 months to download the game because of my satellite downloading restrictions.

Fair enough, but you can't say it's 100%, because it's not. There is a chance beth won't do it.
99% chance that they will, but that's not 100%.

I like to own a physical copy of a game. The disk and suchlike because I am a collector. Hence I am getting CE.

I pre-ordered the Steam version, but the Art Book looks incredible.

I certainly hope it will be available for purchase separately from the CE.

Im getting it over Steam, and people, itl have a preoload.

Will I be able to play Skyrim as soon as it releases?
Yes. There will be more details on preloading Skyrim via Steam closer to release.

Says that in the thread at the top of this forum "Skyrim and Steam"

Theres no reason it wouldnt have it, while so many reasons that it should. Ive a feeling you guys who say it might not have a preload just want to feel better about your choice or something, what do I know.

I've already purchased the steam version. It's fast, convenient and much more efficient as far as I'm concerned. The other day I decided I'd replay Oblivion to get myself ready for Skyrim. Alas, the Mrs had gone and filed the disc away somewhere... could I find it?! No! So what did I do.. I bought it again on steam. Within a few hours I was up and running. The funny thing is I found my original Oblivion disc only a week later, but I'd learned my lesson. Goodbye physical, hello digital!

Well for me personally I like having the physical collection and the album art and liner notes. Plus better quality sounds, though I probably can't really tell the difference anyway. And with games I do prefer a physical copy, again, just to have it. Though I'm not against buying digital at all and I do have quite a few digital download games and I have bought some music digitally if that was the only option or if I couldn't acquire the CD's easily. It's just that most digital downloads are pretty bare-bones and don't include a lot of the stuff that comes with physical media. But I guess most of that isn't all that important anyway, but I do like to have it.

You're replying to the wrong person my friend. I am in support of physical copy. My response was to someone who was condescending towards that fact.

I don't see the point of buying a physical copy when it is tied to your steam account anyway, so would be useless for resale. The only reason is if you are a collector and would want to keep the box indefinitely. Personally I don't like to hold on to games aside from say my top five, and those change over time.

The only things of interest to me are the artbook and manual and the soundtrack. All the relevant info in the manual (and more) should be covered in the offical guide, and hopefully the artbook should be available separately at some point (if not, no big loss).
