Storing Stuff in Faendal's House? Bad Idea

Post » Sat Sep 22, 2012 3:21 pm

I gather from the wiki

http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Skyrim:Respawn

That every time I enter Faendal's house (with him as a follower) the "respawn counter" is reset, and the respawn time on his house is 10 days.

What I conclude form this is: as long as you return there more frequently than 10 days, you could safely store your stuff in the container's in his house?

Never have been much on main quests and periodic dragon attacks because my High Elf is supposedly some "dragon shout dude" doesn't appeal to me intensely. If he was a Nord, yeah sure, but mainly i'd just like to ( a ) have a place to store my excess junk that is pretty close to Whiterun while I level upa bit more; ( b ) not feel forced into the dragonbore stuff. Seems like, apart from the Companion's (which a High Elf Mage guy wouldn't seem to be too keen to do) Faendal's house is about my best option?

I often wondered how safe his house is. Its a shame we don't get at least a save storage place until you buy a home or marry and use their home.

I don't store items there, unless they're large, and then I just drop them on the floor. This is after I used a chest in his house to store some items and they were all marked stolen after I retrieved them.

A the memories... I remember back in oblivion, I just became the arch mage and was given the arch-mages room. I immediately began to haul my stuff from the small shack of a house I had in Bravil into the room, putting the stuff in the drawers etc. A couple of in-game days later, and a lot of saving on old saves, I go back to put another treasure there... Only to see everything gone...

Since then, I have never put anything into containers, unless they were verified by wiki's as "safe".

Early on, I think http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Skyrim:Anise%27s_Cabin and Helgen Keep are some of the accessible places.

My character uses his own set of chests put on another Plane and accesible remotely and at any time via a spell to store his stuff, so I don't have that kind of problems.

Oh, and also a house in Dawnstar, completely furnished and for free since the beginning :)

Heh heh, yeah I'll probably get there eventually. I became addicted to the Bag of Holding http://oblivion.nexusmods.com/mods/4065 mod for Oblivion after I had played a couple hundred hours and the chore of ferrying loot around just got too tiresome.

Still haven't grown tired of Skyrim yet though.

When you do, you know there's a Skyrim version, too :)

In my case, it's more for making a bit more of sense than anything else. I like to roleplay a character who only carries what it's normal for him to carry (his clothes, weapons and nothing else), and that he relies on Alteration magic to store all his other stuff.

Did not know that, thanks for letting me know :)

Makes sense. I'm kinda glad I held off for a year or whatever to get into Skyrim. Many bugs squashed, probably alot of the immediate post release hype/conflict has died down, plenty of mods, etc.

I'm using "Invested Magic" and I like it. Basically, most of the 'buff,' utility and conjuration spells only cost about 10 to cast _but_ they they reduce you total magicka pool by an 'investment' amount. With Novice alteration reduction perk, I think keeping Oakflesh running reduces my magicka pool by 25. Summons, and raising undead works the same way -> cast an oakflesh (candlelight, etc.) and it stays active for ~24 hours, same with summons. But you just have a smaller total magicka pool as long as it is active.

Is your reference to "using alteration" to store/haul stuff a reference to some mod like that?

No. I try to make it simple...I don't really like mods that touches inner aspects of the game, so I mostly use those ones which only adds new spells. For my storage system I use a combination of http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/14393, and a mod I created myself that adds a single cell with the chests (based on Azura's Star, but highly modified). In order to access the Plane physically (if I ever need to), I use the excellent http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/14933, a multiple Mark & Recall mod (which I helped to betatest  ).

BTW, linky to Skyrim's Bag of Holding http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/8066

Why even store items so early in game? if you're saving up for the whiterun house, you will get that pretty quick, just sell the junk and move in.

I'm a packrat. I somehow get a sick satisfaction out of accumulating as much 'junk' as possible.

Not to say I collected truly worthless stuff like kettles or wooden spoons. But pretty much all food, all armor and weapons, all ingredients, all potions.

That, and I like to save stuff that I don't know what it might be used for later.

ADDIT: and Breezehome -> you've got to start the Dragon cycle and I'm just not inclined to do that yet. I want to be able to snipe those beotches out of the sky with uber-powered ice spikes . . .

For earning more money, of course :)

Contrary to Anthropoid, I'm kind of "spartan" in that matter (I like to carry and have little), but you know, training is expensive...

Because I cannot see spending $5000g for a storage chest. Besides, in early game, I am strapped for cash to buy spells and gear. When the less than plentiful items become available as smiths and shops, I tend to get them, if for nothing but the enchantment.

Then there is the fact that...
I may not even go to Whiterun, before level 10 or later.
I tend to collect Alchemy ingredients for use later in game, to raise that skill.
I tend to collect soul gems for use later in game, to raise that skill.
I tend to collect...
I find myself overloaded with loot, and the merchants need to reset with more gold. I need a place to put that excess loot.

I store my things in Gerdur's house until I buy Breezehome. Then I store my things there. Early oin the game I constantly return to Gerdur for free sleeps.
