Storm Call is Horrible

Post » Sun Jul 29, 2012 8:01 am

Storm Call was one of the shouts I was looking most forward to using. Unfortunately I was very dissapointed by how it worked. It looks very nice, and being able to control the weather is awesome, but it has one very big flaw.

The problem with Storm Call is that it doesn't care whether the ones surrounding you are friendly or not, it will attack them either way. This makes Storm Call the perfect shout to use if you want to be hated by everyone. The shout is completely useless in combat, unless you are fighting off a horde of skeletons or something, where civilians and friendly people won't be nearby. I really wish the shout would only attack hostiles, then it would actually be pretty useful. Even if I stand in the plains and activate the shout, there will be people near settlements/camps that will be unfortunate enough to stand under the wrath of the Dovahkiin.

Storm Call is only useful if you want to be a dike. I haven't played Skyrim in months, so if this has changed I'll be happy. I really wished the shout wouldn't attack non-hostiles.

Actually, the problem isn't exactly that the lightning hits everything, but it's the fact that those who are hit turn against me. It doesn't make sense that they are to blame me for a natural disaster either, especially not when they weren't around to witness me summoning the storm.

Don't use it in towns or near friendly folk then. It's most useful against Dragons.

Lightning doesn't discriminate. It's an equal opportunity ass kicker.

There will be people around almost no matter where you go. I used the shout in the middle of nowhere once and suddenly I had the imperial legion after me.

I mostly use it against the forsworn, alienated bandit forts, dragons etc.

It's one of the few shouts I like. For coolness factor only. Just make sure there are no Guards/Important NPC's/Followers nearby.

This. Also I like your avatar.

Lol yes, that always makes me laugh. Guard sitting, doing nothing, and sees his combrade struck by lightning from the sky and says; "Dovahkiin...!!! Kill him, must be him!"

Use it during the civil war; soldiers on your side can't turn hostile during "battle for fort X" quests.

Yeah, but it kind of kills the members on your side. Which is a bit counter productive.

But Dovahkiin is king of everything in Skyrim, so Beth likes to make it so. He's more important!

It's kind of a fair trade for being a killing machine. It would be downright weird if it only killed hostiles.

You don't hope lighting will be picky to struck people, don't you?

It would be just as weird as eating 10 cheese wheels, 7 cabbages and 3 venison stews during combat.

If they have to blame the Dovahkiin for the lightning, then yeah.

The problem isn't exactly that the lightning hits whatever it wants, but it's the fact that people turn against my character. It doesn't make that much sense either that people start hating me for being struck by a natural disaster. How could they even know I'm the dovahkiin and pulled it off when I wasn't in sight?

Well on that note, by the time you get Storm Call, everyone knows you are Dovahkiin.

I was really looking forward to this one just because I wanted to make it rain. I thought it was a cosmetic effect only, similar to "Clear Skies", and then I used it in the middle of Whiterun when they were on their fifth day of consecutive sunshine and half the town died.

I uh... I don't use Storm Call anymore.

Why are you using it in towns anyway?

It's best used in outdoor areas filled with enemies, bandit locations and forsworn locations for example.

I did that mistake as well. Storm Call looks very nice, and controlling the weather is awesome. Unfortunately the city turned into a massacre and [censored] hit the fan.

I never mentioned I used it in towns.

I was disappointed in it too. It is far to weak to be useful wutg such a long cooldown and it is very annoying that you can't use it if you have allies you don't want to attack.

It can be fun to use(when doing the Civil War for one), but it isn't very useful.

I have to agree with the OP the Storm Call shout isn't all that great.
I actually used it once and the lightining for some reason decided that it was funnier to hit the ground than to hit my enemies.
It's probably one of my least used shouts.

Yea, it's really not that great a shout. I tend to stick to fire/frost breath, force push and animal allegiance myself. Tried this shout once out in the middle of nowhere agaisnt giants. Next thing I know, i'm getting bounties out the ass.

I found all three forms of Storm Call and I have to say, I love it. It's practicality exists only for larger battles, seeing as its effect lasts quite a long time. It truly is deadly and its fun to wipe out hordes of people with. The Thalmor and the Stormcloaks really didn't like it. I personally think its the most bad ass shout though, so I use it mostly use it for an ego boost.

I believe the phrase "there's a time and place" is appropriate for this shout.
