I was on Failblog and these automatically downloaded. I clicked on the "show website" option and it came up with a 404. Any ideas?

Probably best if you don't provide that link just in case. At least until it's confirmed it's not malicious or something.

I just automatically deleted them. I just found it strange.

I once had something similar happen ages ago. It turned out that it was nothing more than a malformed iframe that caused it. If you hadn't deleted the files, I would've run hexdump -C on the files so that they wouldn't actually be activated and so that I could see what they actually contain to find out what they were.

Hope they have not already executed or propagated. Websites that you go to are the number one source of malware on PC's. You set up a trusted connection through HTML that allows all kinds of scripts and files to be downloaded to your machine. Any of them can contain stuff that you don't want on your machine. Of course, legitimate sites are nothing to worry about with what they put on your machine. Well, that is another discussion topic really. Anyway, these blog sites sometimes have links to these oh, you landed on my webpage, you are going to have no credit in a month types of sites. You have a key logger installed, your passwords are sniffed, and your wife is wondering why Babbette Entertainment LLC is billing your credit card for $500 a night. This is why I never click on a link in an email. I go to the site some other way just in case it is a place I do want to go, like my bank. But, this way, I don't get Phished.

That probably saved you as those tend to firewall the most obvious attempts to get the files on the system.

The files that did download were just databases, probably used to store the data that the blocked ports could not access. Again, it could have been legit, but you just never know.
