Strange bug - plates + objects keep falling and moving aroun

Post » Sat May 26, 2012 3:47 am

Anyone dealt with this before? not sure what could be causing it other than maybe the static mess improvement mod because none of my mods mess with objects.

Thank you,
Ziggy

In inns? I've been consistently getting banging sounds like objects falling or knocking against each other whenever I stand at the bar of the generic inn design (Riverwood, Iverstead, etc) and talk to whichever NPC is acting as the bartender. Tried everything to find out which items where moving around; TFC and disabling various static items but could never locate it. Eventually gave up and put it down to an annoyance.

Do you have V-Sync disabled? I've not experienced it myself, but there are known physics bugs if you have v-sync disabled and your frame rate exceeds 60fps.

That's exactly what's going on!

Yep, the games physics are tied somewhat to framerate. When the framerate gets high (usually above 80fps or so, more common indoors) the physics simulation starts to get a bit wonky, collision detection is weird, and many objects won't "settle down" (so you hear them rattling).

The solution is to lower the framerate. As mentioned above, enabling V-sync has the side effect of automatically capping FPS at 60fps. If you don't like that solution (Vsync has some drawbacks), then some sort of frame limiter (there is on in ENB series mod, also one on the nexus I think) "frame limiter" or "fps cap" should do the trick.

Yes, can confirm it is a high fps, I had the same problem and had it sorted but it started again! You may also get problems around running water in caves etc....

I'd solved it be forcing on v-sync via my Nvidia control panel but recently updated to beta drivers and the install had reset the v-sync to off, I just forced it on again and problem solved :-)

Here's a link to the fps limiter if that's needed too: http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/downloads/file.php?id=34

Good luck, is very annoying having that Poltogous in all the inns!
