Strange encounters

Post » Sat Jan 05, 2013 6:17 am

I was just passing by Sarethi Farm when I heard a fight on the go. Went over to investigate and it was an Imperial soldier and a Rift guard battling it out. Thought it was strange and I wonder how it started. The Rift guard won, by the way.

Any other strange encounters to report, fellow travellers?

Saw a spider vs troll fight. M'Aiq was present, yielding like a coward although nobody was attacking him. He's probably afraid of blood and crapped his pants in the process. The spider was squashed. The troll was burned by me. Then M'Aiq told me a few funnies like nothing happened. It would be so cool (suggestion for the next game) if NPCs had contextual awareness when they pick their dialogue lines. For instance M'Aiq should have picked a line about his own courage or spiders or trolls, it would have been so cool and context appropriate

Some guards are stationed near that Farm, if I remember correctly. Sometimes the game spawns the trio of Thalmor agents, the imperial soldiers escorting the prisoner or the rich guy accompanied by a lone soldier even in the middle of Stormcloaks controlled territory.

I saw once the imperial soldiers escorting the prisoner passing through Ivarstead and, obviously, they got ambushed by all the Stormcloacks there. The prisoner escaped, only to start fighting on the Imperials side bare handed. Needless to say, they got decimated by the superior force there. I found funny that the prisoner didn't flee away or, at least, if he felt in such a suicidal mood, he didn't join the battle AGAINST his captors.

It happended to me once as well, upon fast travelling to the very same location. I think the game spawned both the Imperial soldier and the guard by mistake - all guards disappear after a hold is retaken by the opposing faction in the civil war.

As for strange encounters - I had the one where bandits are disguised as soldiers and demand money from you (with bodies of actual soldiers lying on the ground), except that when I ran into them, they were battling a dragon. I joined the fight and only after the dragon was dispatched of did they ask me for cash.

Strange encounters of the Skyrim kind, eh?

Random occurances experienced while adventuring is one of the many very minor details that makes Skyrim so unique. Everytime I go to Dawnstar there's an area just off the trail where there's always like four or five different people or creatures fighting it out. The other day there was a bandit, a mammoth, sabre cat, and wizard all throwing down in a free-for-all deathmatch.

A couple weeks ago I was wondering in the southern part of the map well of the trail when some guy ran up to me out of no where. He stopped me and engaged a conversation. He handed me something and told me to hold on to it for a sec while he hides. He then ran off and I watched him crouch behind a large boulder. Seconds later two guards were walking around in the area with swords drawn. They walked over and asked me if I saw anyone run through there. One of my dialogue options was to say "Yeah he's over there". I could also tell them no or send them in the opposite direction. I really wanted to keep the set of enchanted armor that criminal gave me so I didn't hesitate in giving up the guy's location. The guard quickly waddled over there and chopped him up good.
