Strange Transparency and Texture Popping : V

I haven't seen this in the PC forum. I'm noticing that randomly some textures are showing as partially (or sometimes fully) transparent. Sometimes it's NPC armor (couldn't get a screenshot of that,) but the one that I can replicate most often is that my own character's face texture shows up as see-through from time to time. Not sure what variables could be causing that.

Also getting some strange texture pop-ins from time to time.

This may be an issue I was having, where many textures would randomly end up with a sort of checkerboard look, where every other pixel was fully transparent.
I noticed this applied only to the part of the hair that should not be visible on mammoths today, and concluded something was not being handled right with the alpha for transparency.

I solved the problem by simply disabling Adaptive AntiAliasing, since that tries to do some fancy tricks with the alpha blending to give transparent textures smoother edges.
Forcing AA through your graphics card controls may solve the issue too, if it is just the implementation in the game being flawed.
There should be an option to decide whether your card tries to use Adaptive AA or not in your graphic card's control panel.
Supersampling AA may also be affected, haven't checked that yet.

Yeah, that looks like the problems I was having (AMD Radeon 6900 or something like that.) (Sorry - I ran a search, but must have missed your thread.)

I both set my graphics card setting to override Skyrim's AA settings, and then switched AA to something other than adaptive. And that seems to have solved both the transparencies and the texture switching.

Also seems like I might have a slightly better framerate, but I can't confirm that.

Getting back now: Yes, turning off Skyrim's AA and AF, and setting them in the CCC, and setting my AA pref to "Multi Sample" rather than "Adaptive" resolved my issue.

I loaded up my saves where I was getting the glitch consistently (execution ground textures, dungeon walls in Dragonreach, ivy-covered square in Solitude) and all were displaying properly now.

Hopefully other people having this issue will find this thread.

I'm having similar glitches where a banner would become transparant and my horse vanishes when the camera is too close to the thing. Here are a couple of screenshots and I will have to try that suggestion

The first 1 you can barely see the banner on the wooden beam to the left of that stone column in the middle. The second 1 is of my horse which is invisible o.O
