Stray Dog Question

Post » Tue May 22, 2012 10:11 am

I found a stray dog and now he follows me everywhere. When I talk to him, I have the ability to tell him to wait in the current location or to send him home. I do not know if telling him to go home would get rid of him permanently. I just want him to stay at one of my houses. Could I go to my house and tell him to wait there? Would he still be there whenever I go back to my place or would he disappear eventually? Thanks!

Tell him to go home won't get rid of him permanently. You will run into him again (or rather, another stray dog exactly like him) eventually. I don't know if wait will get him to stay at your home, sorry to say.

Thank you for your answer. Does anybody else know if the dog will disappear or not if I tell him to wait in my house?

Yes it will! I had him with me until the quest that you find the next dog on. I left the orginal stray at the quest start location. He is still happily sitting there!
So get him to follow you home and then make him wait there. It should be fine.

I tried leaving him in my house but when I exited the building and then returned right after, he was gone! I reloaded a save and now I am just going to let him follow me.

I have noticed that if I tell my dog to wait anywhere and then I leave the area and return he will always be nowhere to be found! Please help! Is this a bug?

Don't send him home. I did this and I never saw the dog again. It's been quite a while ingame aswell.

The issue I am experiencing is that the dog is disappearing if I tell him to wait in a certain spot and I leave the area and then return to the area. Also, the dog disappears sometimes when I go from one area to another area, even if he if following me. This is keeping me from going to certain places like the hall of the dead in makarth. Is this happening to other people? I am playing on Xbox.

well i have him "told to wait" at the blacksmiths in Falkreath; figured the bloke wanted a dog anyway :P
every time i go back there he is happily sitting there by the fire!
so for PC he seems to work just fine

I have seen named dogs but never got an option for them to follow. That would be cool. How do I do that?

You can buy a dog from the stables in Makarth.

I'm playing on PC and I had mine wait for me outside the meadery near Riften, and he was gone after I finished the quest there. I then couldn't buy the war dog since the stray dog was already attached to me. Frustrating, to say the least.

If you have them wait anywhere after a while a message will come up and tell you your dog has gone home, they are not permanent companions sadly.

Hrm, I don't remember getting that. Either way, I started messing with the console and he stopped being attached to me, so I just bought Vigilance.
