hi guys
i'v found my first quest breaking bug.i have to kill the siver hand leader at valtheim keep, but he is not there i get the quest marker but no leader.
i cant go back to a previous save (overwrote it ages ago) i'v waited 30 days and gone back, still not there. looked all over for him.
is the quest truely stuffed now or should i wait another 30 days?

I'm in a similar situation. Here are additional details:

My location is Redoran's Retreat.

I visited this location once, long ago (when I was, perhaps, level 10 or so). I killed all the bandits I found, but I don't recall for sure whether I cleared out all the groceries and such. Now that I've come back (level 30), I find that the mushrooms and groceries have respawned, but not the bandits. There was no opposition in the dungeon at all.

I'm pretty sure that the location marked by the quest marker is the spot where I left the bandit leader's body, on my first visit. It's just as you enter the inner cavern of the dungeon (actually, just inside the connecting corridor).

Clairvoyance agrees with the quest marker: I'm supposed to be finding the Silver Hand Leader right at that spot on the ground.

I have a goodly number of quest lines in some partial state (say, a screen and a half worth of quest names in the list), and also a similarly goodly number of open miscellaneous quests (again, about a screen and a half).

I have visited the Retreat, trying to complete the quest, in company with Lydia, and again with Aranea Ienith; same results.

its not sounding good then. guess i wont be finishing the companions quest line.
hope i'm not stuck as a werewolf forever it's not a good look for a khajit lol

I just finished quest that with no issues.

Well no quest breaking issues. Alot of the silver hand became stuck, including the leader (he couldn't turn past a handrail at the top of some stairs), which made killing him too easy.

I was sent to broken knife hideout (I think that was the name). Some cave in the woods.


I did a quest with a different character where the guy I was supposed to follow disappeared. His location arrow was in the room with me but its like he was inside a wall. I zoned into the room behind him but he got stuck I guess. I never saw him again, only his arrow.

i get the quest marker, but no leader as i said iv looked all around for him.
i'v looked at the walls to see if he is stuck, above the marker and below.

may rest up for another 3o days and if that does'nt help i'll just have to abandon the quest line and move on.

can no longer get the well rested bonus because of the werewolf thing though

If you've already cleared the dungeon before receiving this quest this bug occurs. This from the wiki:

This quest uses the Radiant Quest System to randomly generate a target location and waypoint for the objectives. In some cases the waypoint will lead to a random spot adjacent to the designated quest location. This is caused when the player has previously killed the Silverhand leader. Currently only PC users can fix this using console commands. This happens quite frequently at http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Skyrim:Valtheim_Towers

Did you mean to quote more from the wiki? Does the wiki say how to recover? Which wiki?

No that's it. This is from UESP. As far as I know or have seen, there's no fix unless you're on PC unfortunately.

just read that myself looks like i'll be howling at the moon for rest of my play through.

you never know it could get fixed in the next patch ( if there is going to be 1 )

I finished that quest with no issues. But Blood on the Ice on the other hand !! It's like having a sore in your mouth, and ya know when ya touch it with your tounge it's gonna hurt, but ya do it any way !! Okay so it's broken, but I am always thinking " But I am not them !!"

I had one problem with Blood on the Ice, but I could get around it. The problem was something happen to the mother of the girl that was murdered. I was suppose to find her at the marketplace so she could give me the key to the house but she never showed up, so I just picked the lock and continued.

Mine stops at investigating the crime scene ? It showes the markers on the crypt, but it wont activate.

Talk to the guard standing next to the crypt.

If that doesn't work (It didn't for me) follow the blood trail to the correct house and break in, you should be able to continue the quest.

seeing has we have moved off subject to the original post, i now have another bug.
i have a radiant quest to collect a book for the guy at winterhold collage, its the wolf queen vol 6.
i have said book in my inventory but he wont except it.

so thats 2 bugs now i hope this won't be a recuring theme

Yeah, that happens with several quest items. If you have the item before the quest starts, you are sometimes not able to hand over the item. I guess you could find another copy of Wolf Queen? I'm stuck with "Cleansing the fane". I got the book before the quest, and he won't accept it, and there's only one copy of the book
