Strip gate causes game crash

Post » Sat May 28, 2011 9:12 am

When i try to enter the strip vla the gate the screen goes black and just freezes, i have to manually restart my xbox, also every time the game tries to auto save it says that the data is corrupted and if i choose to overwrite the game crashes. Has anyone had this problem and have any advice on how i can fix it? All my companions are at the lucky 38 and i cant go get them to help me so i cant even do any side quests.

Yea, I am having a similiar issue. Just avoid the strip I guess would be the work around.

Why don't the mods post a sticky up with a list of the most popular and most serious known bugs with links to posts with solutions or workarounds? Or something similar.
You know, one that just does'nt say, 'try loading your last save' for every known issue.

This is the only real game breaking problem I have run into in this game. I was able to get in without it crashing at first but then at some point (maybe after I killed the guy in front of Gomorrah for the quest in the Atomic Wrangler) it just started freezing every time I try to enter. I can't get through the gate from Freeside but I am able to get in from the other side as long as I run up to the gate backwards because if I am looking in the direction of it the game will freeze. The problem then is that I have to turn towards the Lucky 38 and then the wall as soon as it loads or the game freezes and I have to reset it. Then you just stare at the wall and run along it until you get to a door. Doing this I am able to get into the Lucky 38 and Gomorrah but I can't leave either of them because it will instantly crash as it does when I try to enter from Freeside. If they made it so I could fast travel from inside those two locations I would no longer have a problem with this game. I am nearing the end of the game and all of my current quests require me to enter either Gomorrah of the Lucky 38 so I really need a patch now.

Like I have stated in previous posts, you should try to use the Monorail, if you haven't yet done the quest that ends up buggering up the train itself.

I said that I went in from the other side, the only way to do that is through the monorail.
Also, I read another post that said you can get in if you are wearing an "old cowboy hat". I'm not home right now but I hope it works.

This solution may seem far fetched, but try it. Find an Old Cowboy Hat. One can be purchased from Mick and Ralph's or from Blake at the Crimson Caravan Company. Put on the old cowboy hat and try to enter the Strip again. If this works, simply keep the hat in your inventory and put it on before entering the Strip in the future.

I had this same problem, and it seems to stem from a glitch in the quest from the Atomic Wrangler, namely the end where you kill their former bouncer and turn in his hat, which shares the same model as the Old Cowboy Hat. The above solution worked for me.
