I'm doing the second college of winterhold quest "under the saarthal". So this guy "tolfdir" should show up with some more mages to open up the door but he doesn't show up!! I've been waiting so long.. there is one girl (who is very excited to go in apparently) "Brelyna maryon" who also seems to be waiting. I have the stradegy guide and it sais he could have been cought up by some encouter or sth but it's been far to long.

I googled it but no one seems to have a similar problem, there are some glitches inside the tomb but nothing about him not showing.. could it be that I killed him? I've encountered some guys on my way there but I 'm sure they were just bandits, no mages at all.

There was also a dragonfight right when I left the college, maybe they died there? How is this possible?

Which platform are you on (PC, PS3, Xbox360)? Have you just been waiting there or have you tried fast travelling decently far away and then back? If an NPC gets stuck sometimes it will correct it if you leave the cell (big chunk of area) and re-enter it. Easiest way to do that is to fast travel away and back again. If that doesn't work then try entering the ruin, waiting about 5 seconds real-time and seeing if he appears when you enter. If he doesn't exit again and see if he's there.

If you're on a PC the quick way around this is to open the developer console (hit ~) and enter the following commands:

prid 0001C1A1
enable
moveto player

This will select that particular NPC, enable him if he's disappeared for some reason, and teleport him to you.

Thanks for the quick response, I will try these out. I can't go IN the ruin though that's why he needs to be there.. he has the key so your second option won't be possible.
I'm on 360 btw, wish I was on pc right now caus those commands seem quite handy.

try leaving the dungeon and going back, maybe some stuff will reset

also make sure you have followed EVERY step listed in the http://www.rarityguide.com/articles/articles/1006/1/Skyrim-Walkthrough-College-of-Winterhold---Under-Saarthal/Page1.html

sometimes skipping even a small step can cause the mission not to advance until you do it

Hey never mind it's fixed.. I fast traveled back and forth and he is now just standing there! Thanks charybdisjim!

i had a similar bug, where he was miles away and i could not find him. I just clicked on the Amulet, and he appeared where he needed to and advanced the mission far enough that i could finish.
