Subtitle Dialogue Question

Post » Mon Nov 19, 2012 5:30 pm

I need help from someone who has decent knowledge of the Creation Kit.

I noticed NPC's have two different names.

Full Name

Short Name

Full Name is used when your cursor is pointing at them, to show their name.

Short Name is used as their names in subtitles.

Is their anyway to change subtitles to use their Full Name, instead of their Short Name? Or use something else besides their Short Name?

Thanks to all

Can't you just type their short name in as the same as their long name?

I'm using the value for the short name for something else, which changes it to be not their name.

You might be able to do it with the Display Name option is aliases:

This will not work in my situation because I am not using a Unique Actor. I am using, "Find Matching Reference", so the actor is always dynamic, and the Display Message is static.

Thanks for continued responses all.

As far as I know those are the only two ways to do that. If you're using both for other things and can't use them, then you may be out of luck. Though I'm not entirely sure?

Yeah, I was figuring what I'm trying to is going to have at least one issue with the way Bethesda set up the game. But to have the issue be something as small as the subtitles name being a little messed up, is okay by me, if there aren't any fixes for it. After all, the user can disable the subtitle's and the issue is unnoticed. But I would very much like to find a way around it.

Again, I am using the Full Name as the actors name, but I am using the Short Name for something else other than the name.

Full Name = Name that appears in the conversation menu, and when you are pointing your cursor at them.

Short Name = The name used in subtitles when an actor is talking.

If anyone else can help I will be extremely grateful.

What are you using the short name for that you can't make it the same as the long name?

Maybe there's another way to do that thing, thus opening up the short name.

Hmm, I was hoping there was a setting which defines what name the subtitles use. Maybe there is?

I also am wondering if there is a way to set an alternate name for a location that can be shown under a function like .

Actors have their Full Name and Short Name, but is it possible with Locations?

Thanks to anyone who can help
