Suggestion: 100 boss dungeon

Post » Wed Aug 07, 2013 6:58 am

There will always be a large span between casual guilds and top elite guilds, and it is hard for devs to please all.

Here is a suggestion to solve this:

One thing I like to see in game is a very large dungeon, 100 bosses/events, that scale from fresh lvl 50 PUG friendly up to impossible.

Good thing with this is that all PvE guilds will have something to do. The casual guilds will work slowly from boss to boss, while top elite guilds will compete for worlds first.

It could work so that each 10 boss you are saved so at normal reset (once per week ?) you can always start at last save or reset whole dungeon.

Yeahhh I don't know about that buddy. 100 bosses is a lot. I'd get really annoyed and bored if I was in the top raiding guild and had to fight 99 bosses every week to get to the final boss that we haven't beaten.

Also pretty sure it's been confirmed that there are no dungeon lockouts.

The balancing to make this happen would be pretty tough. Not saying that it would be impossible, but it would be improbable.

The main reason I think this is good is that all have something to do.

One thing I can see happen is that sites like "TESO super guild tracker" have a daily tracker where all can see the actual guild progress.

So it is not first to 100, but rather who has done the top boss right now. If it is boss 37 or 59 don't matter.

Massive dungeons just result in the bulk of players not even seeing most of the content produced for the game. I think a suitable model is to make a more modestly sized dungeon but add a higher difficulty version for the elite players. That way it is realistic for the average to see most of the content and the elite players can crank away on harder versions to get slightly better and aesthetically distinct gear to show off their achievement.

Besides all that, it takes a lot of careful design and planning to come up with challenging, balanced, and interesting boss encounters. Shooting for 100 bosses either means a lot of repetition or a monumental development effort.

For the sake of disclosure, I've never been able to run with an elite raid group though I have been able to do some of the elite versions of encounters back when I played WoW. It gave us the opportunity to see every boss and learn the story while still giving us higher goals to strive for.

"Hardmode" is what made me leave WOW. I was in a top rated guild, and cleared Suwell in BC and when in Wrath they implemented hard modes, it just made it [censored] in my opinion. I play to clear very difficult content with friends. Why would I do hard modes to clear content that I have already cleared? And the easy versions are just too easy. Parallel progression just makes things too easy.

If you want to see end game content - play well, and budget your time so that you can do it.

I think its better for the game if you don't see all content. This makes you wants to try harder, and it makes progress worth something.

I remember back in WoW TBC when top guild at my server had done some of BT. My guild was not close, we where struggling at Kara, but that feel of difference made that game fun. Something worth fighting for.

Later when normal/hard mode came all of that feeling was gone.

Then they should design it so that you don't need to unlock hard mode. No redundancy for those who feel they are elite enough to handle it.

All in all, the developers have to budget their efforts to produce the highest quality of work that will be of interest to the greatest number of people. A possible compromise would be to make the expert path have extra bosses that are unique to it. In the end though, no game company will ever be able to appease the most discerning of players. It isn't possible, and it doesn't make business sense to produce a large amount of content that won't be relevant to the majority of customers.

Beyond that, all I can say is train more people to not stand in the fire and the bar will raise.
