Suggestions for devil-basedsatanic games?

Post » Wed Dec 04, 2013 10:44 am

Firstly, hopefully these kinds of threads are allowed, im not 'anti-religion' or trying to boost the glory of satan or anything. Ugh I feel so weird typing out the thread title  *fire and brimstone* Also i apologise if i've offended anyone with any misused terms. Im not exactly religious :)

But anyway i'm asking this because i've recently been playing this indie game called 'The Binding of Isaac', and i realized that i quite like the satanic, heaven/hell based setting. E.g descending into hell because of some blahblah quest or something. Witnessing monstrosities there as well, maybe bosses in the form of the seven sins or something like that. Games like these are a little sparse though. Anyone have any that you found pretty fun?

Preferably games other than devil may cry and doom.

Thanks :D

edit: To clarify, i'm searching for games which have a devilish theme, where the characters perhaps descend into hell (or a place similar to it). Preferably to have 'real world hell references', like Belial, Lord of the Flies, etc. Occult stuff and tarot cards are interesting as well. I think call of Cthulu is something like that. Or, on the opposite side of the spectrum, games which revolve around the...Christian Church? would probably be intriguing as well. For example, if Silent hill were to have a setting in Hell, it would be pretty interesting.

Also, i thought stalker was like fallout. Anyway, i already have it though, will be trying it out soon

Black and White is a RTS game where you can be a nice god or an evil god.

For action, there is the Stalker series of games.

I am not sure if I get what you are asking for but you want a game with a dark setting or theme?

Not exactly satanic but very much dark setting would be both Demon souls and Dark souls.

Dragon dogma dark arisen includes large dark dungeon with somewhat demonic theme.

For a more of survival game maybe one of the silent hills or Amnesia, also Call of Cthulhu dark corners of the earth was semi-good from what I remember.

Then there is also Vampire Masquarade: Bloodlines , first and second Diablo , and Painkiller

Dante's Inferno would fit your guidelines. The Darksiders games have a lot of hell-on-earth/demons/etc. I think some of the Shin Megami Tensai games have a bunch of hell themes.

edit: Devil May Cry? Bayonetta?

Devil May Cry. The third entry is one of the greatest games of all time and the newest one was also pretty nice.

Oooh http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l_IxhpTyOVc does this beautifully. You get to lead the denizons of hell against the might of heaven. Purely for the lulz of course. And for the glory of the antichrist.

Dungeon Keeper, Silent Hill (3 mostly), and Shin Megami Tensei: Nocturne each fit your description to some degree.

Tecmo's Deception Invitation To the Darkness for PS1(never played it, but it is a game about laying traps and Satan)

Pretty much every single game in the Shin Megami Tensei series, but Nocturne(PS2) fits what you'd want the most(probably)

Shadow Hearts for the PS2(pretty big amount of occult themes in this game)

Silent Hill 3 for PS2(mainly because of the fact that the story is heavily centered around a cult)

El Shaddai Ascension of the Metatron for PS3 and Xbox 360(this is actually a game that is based on a religious text... loosely. Very loosely.)

Brutal Legend is a bit in-between. It's not about the occult or anything religious, but metal imagery tends to rely a ton on images of demons and Satan.

All Three Diablo games deals with this subject. I find the first one to be the best in this regards than the second one and then the third one.

Lucius. The game is on steam and only steam as far as I can tell. This game you are Satan and go kill your entire family in very creative ways, it's a really fun time.

I second this one! (But really this only comes across in that there is a demon player race/nation, and as they win, the world becomes more & more hellish looking.)

*And of course Diablo 1, 2, &3 have been mentioned.)

Messiah, and Sacrifice both come to mind; both (and Disciples 2) are on GoG.

Dawn of War takes heresy into the 40th millennium.

Dante's Inferno Literally is the tale of Dante going through the Nine Circles of Hell.

The Doom Series is about fighting Hellspawns that are breaking through into our world (and Mars)

Doom 3 went for the horror theme, but classics on Ultra Violence are so fast you don't have time to be afraid :hehe:

Though Playstation version went for more horror theme too, with the ambient music and different sound effects it had: http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=oYzQPg346yQ#t=28

PSX Doom is a joke compared to PC version though, the monster are ridiculously slow. And there's no Arch-Viles, the most annoying enemy in the game. And the second most annoying, Revenant has so slow missiles you can only get hit by them by accident. That's not Doom, this is: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KyWsEy4hrQE :hehe: (That level beat me, just couldn't get past the final room, too many Hell Barons and Cyberdemons :shakehead: It didn't help that i was playing with Brutal Doom mod, that makes Cyberdemons much faster and less predictable.)

Also, there is Call of Cthulu.

I heard it was buggy on one platform, can't remember if it was the PC or the 360.

Or the other way around. Or you play the awesome Undead Hordes and beat the stuffing out of everyone! :D

While Shadow Hearts is a great game, and it pulls off the occult atmosphere very well, it doesn't really delve into the traditional Judeo-Christian devil mythology. I certainly recommend playing it, but the Satan figure is not really manifest. If you're going JRPG, Shin Megami Tensei: Nocturne is heavily Lucifer-themed. Hell, it's even called "Lucifer's Call" here in Europe.
