Supersampling does not work!

Post » Tue May 29, 2012 8:10 pm

Hi,

If I set AA and AF in Launcher then I can see the difference in visual quality and it in turn affects my GPU and VRAM usage according to MSI OSD.

However, when I turn these both off in the launcher and set normal AA and Transparency Multisampling to whatever level in either the Nvidia Control Panel or Nvidia Inspector the game looks as though there is no AA applied and there is no change in GPU and VRAM usage. So settings I use in these programs do not work only those in the launcher. I made sure I chose "Override Application Settings".

Can someone who use Supersampling please confirm if they've got it to work and what settings they use in Nvidia? Also do Nvidia Control Panel or Nvidia Inspector settings only work if they go through steam rather than skse_loader.exe?

Thanks

Supersampling works on my machine. I use nVidia Inspector though. As far as I know, Inspector doesn't run through Steam or anything like that. It just sets the flags for whatever executable you want it to.

Select Skyrim from the dropdown box.

Set Behavior Flags to None.

Set AA mode to override.

Set supersampling to whatever you want (disable multisampling, it's not supported).

Should be good to go.

EDIT: Keep the Launcher settings to whatever you would normally use. For some reason, with those settings turned off, it won't matter what settings you have in nVidia Inspector. It just turns everything completely off.

So basically I have 8x AA and 16x AF on in the launcher, with 8x MSAA / 2x Supersampling / 16x AF on in Inspector.

Thank you for your help, it worked!

I put 8x AA and 16x AF on in the launcher but once I set 8xQ MSAA, 4x Supersampling and 16AF it worked like a charm.

I experimented also with CSAA and SSAA. CSAA causes my game not to load even at 8xCSAA and 2x2 Supersampling causes all types of artifcats on my screen and a lot of stuttering. So will stick with MSAA (Quality).

set your AF and AA in game to your value you wish..

set the override/enhance setting in control panel to match with whatever fsaa method you want that matches the values set in the skyrim settings...

problem solved

Glad I could help ya. Skyrim, unfortunately, doesn't support CSAA. Never been able to get the game to even load up with CSAA enabled. SSAA is pretty messed up too, with artifacts like you said and other odd things like textures smearing across the whole screen lol.

I wonder if the reason I do not have any problems getting Nvidia Inspector to set things in Skyrim is...

I added SKSE as a "program" to the profile in Nvidia Inspector...Now whenever I open Inspector OR the Nvidia Control panel, I see SKSE listed in the Profile for Skyrim.

I did this because, in the early days Skyrim was NOT being detected as a program, because 4 GB LAA launcher was hiding it.

Looking at the Icons across the top of Inspector after the drop down arrow is a house (once you have found Skyrim in the drop down use the house ) ...5 icons over is an Application looking Icon with a + , next to it is one with an X.(mouse over says "Add Application to current Profile") Make sure Skyrim IS the profile you are working on then Click this and navigate to your SKSE_loader.exe. Click Open, and now SKSE is tied to Skyrim, running either program (skse or Steam Launcher) gives me the settings I have for the profile of Skyrim.

Just a thought....
