Am i supposed to be doing efficient leveling?

Post » Fri May 11, 2012 8:02 pm

ok so every single skill you have levels up with usage and causes u to level up

if i level up lockpick just cuz im wondering whats behind that door/ in the chest i risk leveling up and the enemy scales

the same thing happens with anything else i decide to use...oo i wanna recover with restoration...

after like 5 levels if i havent leveled sword or heavy/light armor imma get dropped >.>

is there a certain way your supposed to level your skills or is efficient leveling the way to go T_T??

on my first playthrough i wanted to be a assassin but since sneak leveled up way faster than my other skills at level 10 i didnt stand a chance

second playthrough i thought hmmm mayble ill smith/enchant....to weak to fight anything later on...

cant wait for Skyrim XP mod XD

thy're far far far better than oblivion , you don't need to be anywhere near as anol when levelling .

Smithing and enchanting were the skills that gave me at least 10 levels alone. Am I weak in combat? I usually slaughter everything around so obviously now.

If you find some enemies too difficult, go to another place/region. Some places are more dangerous than other places and not everything is equally scaled (unlike OB where everythign was equaly scaled so if you svck at one place you svck at another as well).

Um, I disagree. Skyrim's is extremely fast and I LOVE it :). Keeps it fresh.

that has nothing to do with efficient leveling

Anyone who levels up to 30 just by using a cheaply leveled skill like sneak, pickpocketing, smithing, etc gets what they deserve when they go out to fight extremely powerful beasts without any sort of combat knowledge.

A level 30 blacksmith shouldn't be going on adventures. Unless those adventures are "Preset the Jarl with this awesome weapon I made for him."

I'm really wishing they had kept the Major/ Minor skill division from the other TES games. That way I wouldn't have to worry about leveling from doing random crap

im just trying to level by simply playing the game but so far because of level the leveling system it seems the game doesnt want me to play that way :(
its not like i did some stupid glitch like sneak behind some blind guy for hours to level up like im talking about the beginning after the golden claw quest or wtf ever it called lmao..the quest that u get in the beginning my sneak was high but my melee n range was weak

im honestly about to just go to console and set everything to max n play that way lol this game is just oblivion 2: the evolution of bs

i wont level up but at least i get to experience the game the way i want 2 XD-it pretty much what i did untill oblivion xp was released

I wouldn't worry about it. The only difference is that if you rely heavily on your combat skills for leveling you'll obviously have slightly easier time since you'll be able to get some perks faster. I'm now lvl 41, my sneak is 100, archery 85 and onehanded at roughly 60. Since I almost never get hit thanks to stealthy playstyle which left my Light Armor skill low I had to start leveling smithing and enchanting, both of which are now at 95. I've also picked every lock I've come across (been doing that since beginning), the only thing I've kinda neglected is pickpocketing, and I've tried leveling alchemy (~50) but it's going up so slow that I'm starting to think it's bugged. Bottom line, at some point your leveling speed will slow down dramatically so ignoring some skills because you want to level with combat skills seems a bit of a waste to be honest.

Or you could just hold off on selecting the perk you want until you meet the skill prerequisites. The system is much better than Oblivion's, it's just too vague with the descriptions.

I honestly don't know what all the complaint is about. I have a 2hand bezerker that has smithing as her highest skill so far and due to her superior armor and weapon, she decimated everything in her path so far.

I also have a stealth character and just using the sneak perks and a companion has decimated everything in his path.

If you're leveling noncombat skills, you gotta use them to gain your advantage instead of charging in blindly.

Not really, as of now my melee/magic character has about 40 sneak and archery, both skills I don't use that often. Unlike in Oblivion I play the game how feel like playing whether I'm hunting or enchanting or etc. So far I haven't found any problem I couldn't find a way around. On expert difficulty I found I could kill just about anything with the right strategy .

What others said... If you're playing an assassin type, sneaking is the best thing you can get... : / x15 backstab with assassin gloves that make it x30 is just... Violent.

Sneak is a weak non-combat skill? Are you serious? Sneak is the best [censored] skill to use for burst. Level up sneak, get all the perks for better sneak, getting the perk "Assassin's Blade", get a dagger -> Watch the wonderful fatalities of cut throats. Instant kills.
Now that is fun, it really is. And I'm playing on Expert, so I guess even on the highest difficult the backstabs are kickass. Especially after you get the Gloves of the Dark Brotherhood - Double Backstab damage, that makes 30x dagger sneak damage.

If you fight big animals and dragons - try to train Archery too. One Handed Weapons grew stronger while performing the backstabs, so you get that too.

Personally i hate this aspect of the game.
I have 5 characters and i've tested this extensively. Non - combat skills are just not worth leveling. Only maybe for rp purposes.

It's really funny how the scaling works. I got two warriors with the same build and all. The one has bothered leveling blacksmithing, enchanting and alchemy. The other (2nd one) hasn't. Both have the same combat skills.
The one who has bothered to level up these skills has great gear, weapons and armor and some enchants on his weapons. He also has a lot of potions to buff himself or heal. The other only has whatever he found in dungeons.

Guess who of the two warriors takes the same enemies much more easily...........

I personally want to feel some kind of progression in the game.. Like i'm an adventurer etc and i'm becoming stronger and more experienced with each adventure. This doesn't happen. And unfortunately more like it's degression if i want to play the game with non-combat skills.

Also for me this thing destroys immersion. It's like whenever you "dare to waste your time" in a non-combat skill, you know that enemies power level their own combat skills (unlike you they only level their "combat skills") so that bandit chief you were killing with relative ease at level 5 will smack your face at level 20. Hope a mod gets out soon....

everyone keeps suggesting to efficient level its the only way you could stand a chance with sneak because at earlier levels if you try to just level sneak as you go you wont stand a chance
