I sure hope PvP isn't instantaneous

The most IRRITATING thing about PvP in some typical MMO games right now is that PvP can be defined by a single, extremely short, burst of skills. You run up to a player, stun, cc, stumble, whatever, then dead.

PvP should be a FIGHT.

I realize that in real life, getting the drop on someone can lead to a 1 hit instant kill. This isn't real life. I prefer pvp that takes a little bit of time to fight out, and really see who has the advantage.

Maybe it's just me.

Time to kill is very important. In shadowbane I could have a 1v1 that lasted 2-3 mins and that felt like an eternity when you're pumped on adrenalin casue it was a surprise fight.

But they have to be careful that a fight does not go on too long. Expecialy in games with potions. They need to make sure that healing can not be used to prolong a fight for so long that it becomes a boring slugfest dependant on who had the most pots in their pac.

Best game I ever PvP'ed in was Ultima Online, and in that game two good players, players who really knew how to play, the fight could last 20 to 40 minutes and it was simply EPIC to say the least...the entire fight was edge of your seat, heart pounding action because you knew if you lost the winner would be looting your corpse with you standing beside it unable to say anything to him or her because as a ghost anything you typed into chat came out as "OoooOoooo OoooOoo"

First time I ever logged into UO I came upon a fight between two really good players. This fight was right in the capitol city because these players had joined the Chaos vs Order conflict and could then attack each other anywhere they met in the game without interference form the NPC guards. The fight went all through the town and I was totally captivated by it and I followed them to watch, thinking to myself, I NEED to learn this game so I can fight like that, it was glorious, and amazing. When the fight finally ended the winner started to loot the loosers corpse and he even appoligized saying,

"Sorry bro, that was an epic fight and I thank you for it, but you know the rules, I get your stuff"
