Alt+Tab will allow you to do this, you may have to alt+tab twice to get back into the game though as doing it once normally gives a black screen.

Mine's never crashed that way, but I usually have to right click to open it after alt-tabbing

And what about playing the game in a window? is that possible? Fallout 3: New Vegas, e.g., was possible to play in a window. So I had always access to the internet and the wiki of this huge game!

From the launcher, go to options. I think there's a window mode in there.

O no, it seems not to work! I can go to the desktop by pressing alt+tab. If I try to go back to the game, I only get a black screen with a frame, though. Tried this several times.

Sometimes on AMD cards (and possibly NVIDIA as Windows reports the switch), ALT-TAB switches between 3D and 2D mode which equals crash if 3D isn't turned back on quick enough.

Also causes driver stopped working messages and game crash if Windows decides to report the switch when it shouldn't

Did you read my post? when you try to alt+tab back in it will give you the black screen with the frame, don't click anything just simply alt+tab on the game again and it will work.

Use the ingame browser

Good Idea, it is not accessable, however. Pressing shift+tab brings me into the area where I can see a word "web browswe". But i have no means to get on this command. My mouse ist not working in this screen.

by the way, how can I add a picture ti a post here in this forum?

just keep an open window when u play skyrim,
Alt+tab works the first time with an open window.

to go back, press on skyrim
blackscreen... pres alt+tab... click on the blackscreen... now ur back in skyrim.

windowed mode (not tested)
normally u press Alt+Enter to switch between windowed and full screen mode.

This can happen a lot with game on windows vista and windows 7, not just Skyrim. Its mainly due to how the graphics drivers and the game interact while running dx9 in a dx11 enviroment. Its hard to explain in simple terms, but just know that your not the only one this happens to.

A few things that might help;

1.) Make sure your graphics drivers are fully up to date
2.) Play the game on the same resolution as your desktop
3.) Disable any non-essential background programs
4.) Make sure your graphics card drivers controls are set to "application controlled"

Best of luck.

on my Windows 7 , i need to "alt+tab" to go to desktop

Then if i want to go back in game , i just click on the black screen and press the "windows" key , then the game reappears .

I never had a single crash when alt+tabbing so far , strange to hear some have

Good advice!

May I also add having your Window's Task Manager running in the background. At first, I had a couple of game crashes via alt+tab. So just like when I used to play Medieval: TW, I have TM up and it helps me switch between windows vs trying to switch to just the desktop. Haven't had any crashes since.
