System memory usage and CTDs

Edit: just saw another thread on here I missed before that pretty much asks the same question. Basically 3.2-3.3 gig seems to be when most people starts crashing. Answer: just svck it up and take out some texture packs.

Just wanted to ask for a bit of advice regarding system memory usage and Crashes. I have been having what I thought were random CTDs. After running Skyrim performance monitor I am seeing crashes happen as soon as I hit about 3.2 gig of system memory usage.

I can replicate this by fast traveling around rapidly and then traveling to an area that I know uses a lot of memory. I can still cause the crash with no mods active other than textures.

My system is an i7 3770k with 16gigs and a gtx 680 (4gig) on windows 7 x64, so plenty of extra memory and a decent system.

I am guessing this is an engine limitation because I have read other forum posts complaining of something similar. I have also read others say that their game can easily reach 3.5-3.8 gig without crashing so I'm not sure why mine would crash so consistently at 3.2gig.

As long as I keep the memory usage below 3.2 gig it's 100% stable which means eliminating or reducing some texture mods.

Nvidia setting and ini changes make almost no difference in system memory usage for me. Also tried the ini setting that unloads unused assets (forgot what it's called) and that does help somewhat by extending the time before a crash.

What kind of memory usage are you guys getting during play? Is there some kind of memory wall I should be aware of? Should theoretically be 4gig on an x64 system.
