Tab key no longer exit read books?!

Post » Fri May 25, 2012 2:47 am

After about 30 hours of gameplay, i can no longer use tab key to exit books. i reload and check every single save files, they all stop working. i basically got stuck opening a book, and i can no longer exit enchant and alchemy screens too.

another problem i found is i won't be able to fast travel when this happens. When i click on the destination, the map automatically closes. just wow.

my tab key still work fine when opening character menu and exiting npc dialogues, so it's not a problem with my keyboard.

what's with this ridiculous bug? now the game is basically unplayable.

I have been having this exact same problem, and I agree it makes the game nearly unplayable. I have tried re-mapping and resetting to defaults and have tested my keyboard every way I can think of and is definitely not my keyboard either.

same here you guys. I have been making a list of all the issues I am seeing I am wondering if you guys have all the same ones or just a few.

my fast travel is not working, when I try to travel to a location the map just closes.

my Favorites button "q" will only work to pull up the menu, not to close it. To close the menu I have to press tab now...

I tried starting a new game and I got stuck at the part where you name your character. Nothing would confirm the name. I pressed enter, I clicked the "Yes" icon i pressed "e" and nothing. had to Alt-Tab-Del and shut down TESV.exe

Map will pull up but tab will no longer work to close it, now I have to press "m" again

I cant use mouse 1 to set my favorite anymore I now have to use "e" Clicking it does not work.

Also dragons will no longer engage me, I used dragonrend and everything and it would not land then it just flew away.

It looks like the Esc key now does what the Tab key used to do.

Also you now need to use F to store items instead of R.

Try deleting your ini files and reverifying steam cache.

My tab key is still working normally to close books etc, so maybe something become corrupt with your ini files?

isent this one of the things the Patch "fixed"....ESC is the new Key? or is it "R".

Don't know don't care I reverted to.....1.1 (11.11.11) The EXE the game came with. And steam NOT even running. CFF explorer gives me LAA . Game is completely stable.

I reverted back to 1.1.21.0 and I just started having this problem. Wondering if I should just reset all of my Skyrim folder instead of just the EXE.

I've found a way to exit book! Well not a way, but a work around.

When you fast travel it takes you out of the map menu right? Well I decided to see if I sent my character somewhere if it would exit the book screen, and it does! All you have to do is open the console and type

coc

So if you're stuck reading a book for a quest, just read the book, then Center On Cell to a different area and it exits the book screen. Hope that helps until this can be patched.

I am also have these exact same problems. I rolled back to 1.1 but 1.2 exhibits the same behaviour. I went back to 1.1 because like many others it introduced bugs that did not exist prior to the "patch."

Had a problem similar to this, only the tab key wasn't working in-game at all. Saving, quitting to desktop, and then relaunching seemed to fix it. Wasn't having the issue with fast travel, though, and my issue was probably related to Steam In-Game.

Could your problem be caused by a mod, because I certainly haven't been having any issues with this so far, besides the similar issue (which is probably not related).

Yeah, I had this problem, too. You can't just revert the .exe file. The patch also changes the file "skyrim-interface.bsa" and if you don't revert it also, you will have all sorts of UI problems. One of mine was that when I tried to pick a shout off the magic menu, the UI would lock and I had to kill the process in order to get out of the game. Sounds like the exact same issue you all are having with being unable to exit from the books screen.

If you search for this file online, you can find people who posted it for download. Or if you have Windows 7 and you have system restore on, you can just right click the file and select "previous versions."

If this was true, running with a 1.2 executable should work like it used to. It does not. All patched (and unpatched) versions of the executable are indentically borked.

You are not understanding. You cannot use 1.2 executable with a reverted skyrim-interface.bsa. The 1.2 patch IS "borked."

What I am telling these posters to do is abandon 1.2 entirely. Who wants to play with ruined magic resistance and a host of other issues? Pretend 1.2 never happened.

Revert to 1.1.21 with its accompanying skyrim-interface.bsa file, and you will not have any problems. That's what I did, and I'm over 70 hours in.

Oh, i understood completely. BSA file is intended for 1.2, but rolling back to 1.1, executing, and then using 1.2 again does not solve the problem. You are correct, an old BSA file with 1.1 restores the playability. Thanks for that.

Don't understand this, I use vanilla PC key mapping and everything works after the patch exactly as it did before the patch.

hmm I don't know what this means but I am having these problems and I never even updated to 1.2

I logged onto steam after they had pulled the 1.2 update that day so I have been stuck at 1.1.21.0 the entire time. Oh and I should add that these issues didnt start for me until a few days of me playing after the 1.2 patch hit everyone else. Basicly I got home that day, saw the patch had come out-been a disaster-been pulled and went on playing fine. Did some main quest missions. Did some dragon killin.

Two days go by.

Play till midnight on 2nd night with everything working just fine, Get home from work next day (3 days after patch) and NOW I notice I cant come out of my favorites screen anymore. (see my previous post)

I just thought it important to log for the record that my problems seem inconsistant with the 1.2 patch. Maybe something with our systems causing this . I am running vista 64 I wonder if that matters ..

I am terribly saddened by the fact that I cant play this game. I hope so much that the patch fixes my keys so I can play again.

Same problem here, I can't fast travel or exit crafting and book screens. Tab doesn't do anything and echap just open the system menu. This problem is so boring that I prefer to stop playing until it is fixed.
